It's very simple. Margarito is a predictable, slow, fighter who lacks a big punch and accuracy. His defense is horrible and he gets out of position every time he throws and misses his wide, sloppy punches. He becomes very frustrated when someone moves effectively and doesn't brawl it out with him. He is a counter-punchers dream. His stamina is very good, but he can't break down a fighter like Quintana that moves well because he can't land on him enough and will be getting tagged over and over. Williams was able to beat Margarito clearly while not even fighting a smart fight. An inactive Quintana clearly beat Williams who is similar to Margarito in that he is a volume puncher with a solid chin and huge workrate that is easy to counter and confuse with movement. But Williams is physically huge and faster than Margarito, so he presents a much tougher challenge for Quintana. Cotto was able to make Quintana look ordinary because he is a quick fighter with very good power who throws precise punches and is a very intelligent boxer. Nothing about Margarito can be compared to Cotto. No point of talking about the weight draining ****, Williams showed very good stamina in the fight and made absolutely no excuses after the fight. You don't need to make excuses for him. So Margarito's smaller size will be an advantage? Margarito is more hittable than Williams and extremely clumsy himself. Quintana will have no trouble controlling Margarito.. definitely less than the monster sized Williams. Anyways.. this isn't important. Williams is size/volume. Margarito is just volume. His power is nothing close to big, he has above-average breaking down power at best. His one punch power is nothing worth noting. Margarito had a very close fight against Clottey, who is more hittable than Quintana and has the worst stamina out of anybody in the top 10. Plus he had a broken hand. Quintana will not be broken down effectively by such a shitty pressure fighter.. he isn't the weak minded Cintron.
Margarito beat the crap out of Williams, but was cheated out of the decision. I think Margarito will stop Quintana.
Margarito all the way. Margarito actually throws a wider range of punches than Williams, hits harder and would wear Quintana down to a late stoppage. Margarito lost to Williams in a very close fight, because was over-confident and thinking about Cotto, and he came on too late like usual, not to mention Williams fought the fight of his life that night. Williams lost to Quintana, because he had obvious problems making weight, overlooked Quintana (most likely due to his one sided-loss to Cotto), fought a horrible tactical fight and had no plan whatsoever besides throwing lots of punches. One major thing to remember is that Margarito throws body shots and would break Quintana down via-late stoppage and he's very heavy handed. Doesn't matter cause we will most likely see Cotto-Margarito next, which will be a tough fight for both guys and is really 50-50 imo.
So you're telling me that putting on 18lbs in 24 hours doesn't hurt a boxer? Ok man whatever. I guess because a guy doesn't cry like a ***** when he's lost a fight that must mean he was 100%. Not everyone complains or makes excuses. Of course it'll be harder. Smaller man = more agile man and it'll be harder turning a guy your own size than it is turning a man much bigger. Sure circling a guy like Williams might be harder. But so what? Quintana by midway was through circling Williams and found answers by just staying way out and turning Williams when in close, to make room for the counter left. Williams is so big he has to come down to hit Quintana. All that bending down to reach him means he's constantly being turned and not in position to actually do anything. That's why Quintana was finding him so easily with the lefthand counter. You downplay Margarito's strength at every turn. Why I am not really sure. But look here is how it is. Clottey has never been stopped by anyone. Margarito up to this point is the only welterweight who actually had him hurt. He put so much on Clottey in that 9th that when the 10th came out Clottey was on his bike looking to avoid contact. That's a rarity if you've followed Clottey's career. And where did you read that his hand was broken? We've beaten this horse dead long ago. His hand was not broken! And no, Quintana isn't Cintron. But he also is not the guy you guys are making him out to be. Of that I am sure. I look at the Williams fight on two things. 1. Williams took Quintana lightly and 2. Williams could not adapt soon enough to offest the disadvantage he suffered over 6 of 12 rounds. Should Margarito ever fight Quintana, I am certain this will ring clear.
He gets very frustrated? Which fights are you basing that on? :huh The similarites with Williams and Margarito end with volume. Williams isn't as hard a hitter at Margarito, nor does he have his variety of punches. I don't think I've even seen Williams throw an uppercut or attack the body. Sure, then what was the purpose of this part of the post? We aren't discussing Cotto. :huh Agreed. I don't think the weight was the reason he lost. Clumsy? Margarito is now clumsy? :huh Based on what fights? I appreciate you at least putting in words what you think will happen, but you really do a one sided analysis here.
There's some All Time Great quotes from ******ed twins huki and amsterdam in there if you want a laugh. When over 53% of people think someone like Quintana can school Margo you have to wonder about the average level of boxing knowledge on here.
I will say it depends on wich Quintana shows up. Well trained and with mentally prepared, he can win. But if he starts thinking that MArgarito KO Cotto, then he wont have a chance.
