If you don't have the power to hurt Takam he can be a handful for anyone. That includes quite a lot of guys from that era.
He also, I'd argue, has an unofficial win over Mike Perez, who was quite a tricky customer back in the day. The thing which makes me rate him quite highly is how competitive he was against the upper echelon guys. It's always a bit risky to rate fighters on losses, but there's no doubting that he gave almost everyone he fought real problems before either getting KOed (Chisora, Povetkin) or getting outworked (Parker). He's a solid, tank-like guy who exerts good pressure, but is also quite crafty and has a ton of heart. That combination can be quite hard to deal with if you don't have the length or punching power to keep him off you.
Ah - Yes - Well, it was a strange bout. Takam probably deserved the nod, but he had been wasteful in the earlier rounds. I'd also suggest that Perez was not the same, after the tragic circumstances of his bout with Abdusalamov, and Perez had been matched with Takam, in the immediate aftermath of that bout.
