@ BW. How would this play out with both at their very best? Could Zarate be able to handle a great pure boxer like Lora using his strength and power? Or would Lora use his defensive skills and counter punching abilities to make him look ordinary and win a decision?
Zarate would stalk Lora and put the right punches together down the stretch. He'd stop 'Happy' no doubt in my mind.
Lora wins early rounds. Lora lacks power to stop Zarate from gradually wearing him down in the latter rounds. Zarate wins a decision. Or possibly stops Lora late.
This. I think Lora wouldn´t fight a safe type of fight, he was good on the inside, would try to use this and lack the power to do some damage, Zarate on the other hand......I can see a late knockout.
I tend to agree Lora would likely not be safety-first or disciplined enough in avoiding giving Zarate the exchanging opportunities needed to grind it out, but there's always the chance Zarate would end up befuddled by a top-notch slickster and stay a step behind too long for him to capitalise on some strong later rounds. He's certainly methodical and straight line enough in his approach for it to be a worry, though the size\range and power advantage should see him home.
It would have been interesting to see defensive specialist Lora fighting Zarate at close quarters as Zarate was pretty good inside fighter himself.
I'm curious...Have any of you actually seen Lora fight? I have, from ringside. He is the master of following through with his elbows. zarate might kill him.
I am in the minority, but would pick Lora....But realize he would need to fight the perfect fight to do it.
Due to his good body work and Lora's tendency to invite danger through excessive defensive posturing along the ropes, I think I'd favour Zarate. Zarate hasn't faced anyone like Lora, but he has seemed rather comfortable against defensive movers like Paul Ferreri and Andres Hernandez, and though they did a fair amount of running against Zarate, which would be dissimilar to what Lora would do, I think Zarate's ability to find their bodies and break them down would be the approach taken against Lora too. Zarate would do a hell of a lot more missing, but that isn't likely to discourage him. The closest thing Lora has ever faced to a Zarate is probably the somewhat similar though lighter hitting version in Jibaro Perez, who managed to pressure Lora well and edge him out when Lora was a little past his best. A sharper Lora probably beats that Perez, but when you add heavier hands into the equation, the balance probably tips back to Zarate. I'm guessing something like an even fight as far as rounds won goes with a knockdown or two down the stretch to grant Carlos the victory.
Bump. Curious to know what you think about this match up @ChrisJS I still think this could be a competitive fight, if we're talking about Zarate and Lora on their best nights. Lora had the speed, defense, and skills to hold his own against Zarate's power and offense.
I think Zarate was patiently stalk him and the moments where Lora is idle or inside, I think Zarate gets good body work in enough to set it up to slow Lora down and clip him late. It could be very difficult early with Lora’s movement, but Zárate was good at waiting for his spots and being effective while not overly committing himself.
