Where does he rank in his chosen weight class? Just how powerful a hitter was he? Anythings appreciated.
Imo zarate is the number 1 atg bantamweight ever , there are about 3 or 4 you could make the case for , but Jofre is the other solid candidate imo , a lot of people question Jofre's resume though , but h2h and how good a fighter looked does come into it aswell , and Jofre was exceptional . Anyway , Zarate was brilliant , very powerful at 118 and the best of his era , im gna scor the pintor bout if i get the chance . If any1 has a link would be much apreciated

I remember watching the Zarate Pintor fight and was shocked that Zarate lost. They both fought so carefully. In his prime Zarate blasted out everybody at bantamweight.
hes top 10 at bantameweight but jofre, ortiz, olivares, harada and panama al brown should rank higher than him, they all beat superior opponents.
Thanks for the vid zippy and johnthomas , just watched it , very very close and hard to score , you know in 79 , was it 10-point must or was it based on how many rounds you won ? Its crucial to how i scord the fight
Pintor/Zarate was indeed scored on the ten point must system. In fact, after the round four knockdown scored by Zarate, judge Bob Martin got confused, and scored that stanza 10-6 in favor of Zarate, when he meant to credit a 10-8 round in the champion's favor. Martin had Zarate winning 145-133, but he became an ex-champion due to the other two opinions.
