The Lebell who beat Milo Savage in their boxing vs. judo match in 1963 vs. the Carlson who beat Santana in 1955 and drew with him in '56. Who takes this? CARLSON vs. SANTANA [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GesmWClbdeQ[/ame] LEBELL VS. SAVAGE (more of a documentary, unfortunately; can't find the full fight) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9mER2BmNRA[/ame]
Hard to see Carlson getting Gene down, and I dont think LeBell would want to stay in Gracie's guard if he fights smart and does his homework. I think the Gi would play a major role in how this one goes. I think Carlson cant use the Gi against Gene, kinda like Saku v Royce, but with less success in out muscling Gene like Sakuraba did.I fancy Gracie by Gi choke from the bottom after taking some tremendous punishment via punches in the clinch and ragdolled to the ground consistently Both great fights with great fighters
Is the Gracie footage an exhibition? I don't know much about the early days, but doubt a fight with the boxer would've been as much of a struggle if the Brazilians had fought him. Mixed Martial Arts bouts were common in Brazil, and Brazilians were familiar with them. This may have been Lebell's only fight something like a MMA bout. Nonetheless, the Brazilians looked more adept to grappling.
