Does anyone have any insight into why Basilio and Moyer never fought? Moyer lost to Jordan shortly before Basilio beat Jordan, but then Moyer beat Griffith and Paret around that same time. Seems like this would have been a natural fight to make. And, freaking everybody fought Denny! So how come these two never met?

Moyer may be underated in that 2 year window....beats Rodriquez, and goes 1-2 via split decisions with Griffith.

12 years between them in age...Basilio a full fledged middleweight coming to the end of his career at that stage, Denny still a young up and coming welter.

Though Denny was fighting over the limit I still think he was ranked as a welter up until 61, about when Carmen retired, then he decided to commit to middleweight.

The timing was there by the looks of it...though I have read a couple of snippets not explicitly stating a fight between was happening but that the winner of a bout Moyer was in was eyeing off fighting Basilio or possibly it was Carmen who was eyeing off the winner of that bout. Obviously it didnt come off and I cant remember who exactly it was and if Denny actually won it.

My own speculation says it was just timing more than anything else. It just seems odd that Basilio isn't on Moyer's resume. Half the boxing world is on there, but not Carmen Basilio. I just wondered if anybody knew anything specific.
