Rock-solid and iron-jawed welterweights from the 50s and 70s respectively.

    Who wins and why?

Agreed, Basilio too tough and too dogged. However, I do believe it would go the distance.

Basilio by decision. He is very underrated in how scientific he is about making himself smaller when wading in to attack. Surprisingly elusive. Then, BAM! He's right in your chest. Palomino won't be able to cope with that.

This the fight I think about when in the dentist chair, have done for years, also Carmen is one of my favs, will go with the flow, would back Basilio to be too, rugged, too resilient , and altogether uncontainable, also as one with Sal that his boxing brain and skills were not fully appreciated at the time ( more so now I would say ) this could very well be the stand out pairing in the pantheon of WW match ups, the body puncher enthusiasts will be salivating, this has 15 rounds painted all over it, the only provisio would be if Carmen was cut too badly, and I mean badly, this guy had complete disdain for punishment , the left hook he took from DeMarco in the 6th ( i think ) would have dropped many a champ in this division, not Basilio he had a chin cast in stone, for sure Carlos would also show a very solid mandiple, and match Carmen for endurance and stoicism, yea next time I am in for a RCT this fight will be relieved all over again.
    stay safe guys.

Carlos Palomino was a good body puncher, his left hooks to the body are which helped take the WBC Welterweight Title from John H. Stracey on June 22 1976 by TKO 12. Carmen Basilio was a very relentless body puncher who could take a punch as well as evidenced in his bouts against Tony DeMarco and Sugar Ray Robinson. Palomino had some brilliant bouts against Armando Muniz and Davey Boy Green. I think that if these two were to ever meet, it would be close but Basilio would emerge with a close verdict.

I’m a big Palomino guy but neither of these fellows is going to crack the other’s chin and Basilio is the busier guy. Great action fight with Carmen winning a decision on workrate.

Tough fight but I think Carmen Basillio had better skills. Carmen threw some sweet combinations and he moved his head pretty well. They both got hit but I believe Palomino would catch more Square punches from Basillio.
    Basilio by decision.

I haven't seen alot of Basilio TBH, but i've seen all of Palomino's major fights. I think judging what i've read about Basilio, that he would beat Palomino because he competed at a higher level. But i do know neither man would be stopped due to their rock solid chins.
