Who wins? Can a beefed up welter handle a legit middleweight? This would be interesting.

Basilio makes it interesting and wins rounds with his workrate...But I'll go with Giardello by very close decision

Two of the more rugged guys to enter the ring. Both had plenty of heart, granite chins and all kinds of ability.

I would go with Giardello because he is a full sized middle and was an excellent counter puncher. His height and reach advantage would keep Carmen's offense at bay while Joey would be able to stick and move and basically outbox him.

The main thing here is, they were both great fighters and are thankfully, still with us.

Joey Giardello was too clever, and too tough for Basilio. Joey wins a unaimous decision by outboxing Carmine. He'd use every trick in the book.

Interesting they never met....fought in the same era.

I guess Basillio's fight against Paul Pender was equivalent to
    him taking on Joey G.

Not at all. Giardello was a league above Pender; more dynamic.
