I will take prime Carmen to outland and outbox Cuevas.

I don’t see Cuevas as having to enough power to KO Basilio. It should go without saving that Carmen who went 30 rounds with Middleweight Robinson, and fought on through a completely closed eye is not going to KOed by Ceuvas.

Also, Cuevas does not have the skill or the speed to corner and unload on Carmen. He will whack Carmen and few times, sure..perhaps buzz him, but if anyone is going to get KOed it will be Pipino.

Basilio is not Ranzany and Cuevas is not Gavilan, Robinson or Fullmer.

2 rock jaws meeting at ring center. A great fight in which I can’t see either getting ko’d. But I do see Basilio taking a 15 round decision.

I got Pipino chopping away with that lethal left hook for 15 rounds on the way to a UD. Basilio is too easy to hit and Cuevas is the better offensive fighter.

Now Carmen Miranda, that would be a different proposition entirely.

He’d knock that fruit right off of her head, but he might slip on the banana peel like that slicked-up canvas he had to fight Thomas Hearns on.

I always felt that when it was bought up about who would win between Cuevas @ Palomino, and there was lots of discussion at the time, not withstanding Pipinos crushing power, or even with it to be more precise, Palominos chin ( his strongest asset ) would prevail, indecently the writers were asking before the Basilio/DeMarco set to, what will decide this fight , Carmens chin or Tonys left hook ? we know the answer.

So in conclusion, I have Basilio as a better WW than Palomino ( not by much ) and I therefore go with, if Palomino could have beaten Cuevas (in my eyes ) then so could Carmen, not only that, I also think Basilio would have worn Cuevas down with his incessant body punches, and forced a late stoppage, or RSF much in the fashion of DeMarco 1.

If Basilo gets through the first half of the bout Pipino better run.
