I saw on you tube that they recently honored Carmen Basilio at the Syracuse War Memorial Auditorium by raising a banner with his name on it to the top of the arena. This is where Carmen fought many of his great fights including two title winners against Tony DeMarco and Johnny Saxton as well as epic battles with Kid Gavilan, Billy Graham, Don Jordan, Gil Turner etc. It was great to see the old warrior at 81 years young still on his feet being escorted out to the middle of the arena to receive the very much deserved honor. What a fighting champion he was and what a great human being. I wish he was 30 yrs. old and fighting today. Nobody ever put up a better scrap inside the squared circle than the old "onion farmer" .
