Why does no one agree with me? I don't know, you'll have to ask them. He's not listed in the top 100 punchers because he's not a top 100 puncher. That's a very small, exclusive list. If the list is only for Heavyweights, he should definitely be on it. I'm going based on what I see. Have you seen his KD on Meen in HD? https://youtu.be/HCz_kO_UshY?t=1m24s Make sure HD is selected. His KO on Sharkey in HD https://youtu.be/V3MnFeZ2fDU?t=1m38s That's a BRUTAL KO. If you still think he has average power after watching these two clips, I don't know what to tell ya.
You're making it too complicated. I don't need Spinks to fight a great fight to know that Tyson knocked him out ferociously.
I agree with you partially, for his size carnera did not have great hittig power, but you are exagerating when you said that he did not have even average power,he failed to stop Several guys not because he lacked the power to do it but he strugled with smaller fighter faster than him, he destroyed a giant like campolo
Sharkey said even his Wife doubted the authenticity of the ko .I think his reaction to the"punch ,"looks very exaggerated. You have your opinion I have mine and we have be over this several times. Aside from the Sharkey second fight topic my contention is that Carnera was not a big puncher if you disagree fine, just don't expect me to give your opinions much credence in future.
Campolo weighed 224lbs for their first fight ,given that he was conceding 42lbs and at 6'9.5." must have been built like a Stork, that he had been badly kod twice before ,I don't find that a noteworthy achievement. In their second fight ,when Campolo had added 56lbs to his frame Campolo went the distance without being floored. Carnera struggled with a lot of guys who were too proud to take the $ and go for a swim.imo. Joe Louis ,who brutalised Carnera said ,"he had nothing."
Carnerna on guts and stamina. I don't know a thing about who trained Carnera, but if they had worked on power, he would have been a much better fighter. He did no worse against Louis and did Baer, Sharkey, or Schelling (second time of course). Also, the guy always looked in shape, for a big man you never saw him with a belly.
I'm going Carnera. He proved he could fight inside and would be able to walk Valuev down imo. That being said Valuev looked absolutely incredible against Liakhovic. But Carnera looked even better against Sharkey.
While I want to stay out of this, I think Loughran is a poor argument to use to knock Carnera's power. He fought them all and was stopped only 3 times in 169 fights--an early fight on an injury, and by Sharkey and Hamas. Loughran defeated both in rematches. And a lot of punchers and top heavies, like Baer and Shaaf, failed to stop him. And he fought many contenders after Carnera, with none stopping him. All that said, Carnera was certainly not a top puncher, but he seems to have occasionally gotten his weight and power behind a blow as with Sharkey.
In the past I've always been a harsh critic of primo Carnera but after further review I think he was better or at least had more "potential" than many of us give him credit for. On film, he had a pretty good jab and could move around well for a big man. He had decent power, could go the distance and took a lot of huge shots from men like Baer and Louis. I believe some of the allocations that he had "some" fixed fights, but I don't think his entire career was fixed. With a better trainer and some other adjustments he could have been a serious force. That said I don't have a problem picking him to decision Valuev. I think he'd be slightly quicker and a lot busier. And while Nikolay had the size advantage he didn't have the power or aggressive approach needed to make primo fold.
