Carpentier v smith: anyone have any info on how this went down?

After reading more about the smith v langford fight, it seems the decision was legit.

Langford was clearly undertrained and overweight but that's his own fault.

In beating langford and pelkey, smith set himself as the number 1 contender to jack's throne (and maybe even set himself as the best hw in the world) by my reckoning but shortly after these victories he lost by dq to carpentier in england.

Is there any info on how the dq came about it?

Is there legitimate reason to question the result or was the result itself legitimate?

I take from that, that there is good reason to question the call. It seems Carpentier was comfortably outboxing Smith, but Smith caught him with a shot as Carpentier was off balance.

Carpentier then drops and Smith lightly catches Carps on the head, the ref, after corner protest decided to award the dq, but afterwards regretting the call saying it should have been carps dq'd as a result of his corner entering the ring.


Chnages my perspective somewhat on the gunboat.

 

Yeah comfortably outboxing was too vague.

Gunboat also received a long count.

Still, the dq doesn't seem warranted.
