It's an impoverished country, with hardly any boxing infrastructure. The most popular sports in the Country are Soccer, Cricket, and Track and field. What are you talking about excuses? It's the same reason why any country with hardly any boxing infrastructure doesn't produce many top quality boxers.

Hi all, I would suggest Jamaica has done amazingly well considering the country has a population of under 3 million people. For a small, third world nation of that size have produced greats like Lennox Lewis ( born in the UK but both his parents are Jamaicans ) and Mike McCallum as well as another heavyweight champion in Trevor Berbick is extremely rare. Add fighters like Bunny Johnson, Simon Brown, Keith Mullings, Glen Johnson and Razor Ruddock and I would say Jamaica has a very proud boxing history.

Countries are good at some sports , countries aren't good at some sports. Some Countries are awful at all sports. Jamaicans are good at sprinting ( and music). I don't why people have to look for petty excuses on this subject. Jamaicans don't make good fighters. Only ONE great fighter EVER!!! says all you need to know.

It would much fairer to compare Ukraine with say the United Kingdom as far as boxing history goes than a tiny Caribbean island like Jamaica. It is ridiculous to compare a former communist country of 45 million with all the sporting infrastructure the Soviets put in place to a third world country with a population of less than 3 million people.

Ukrainian people are tough and can fight, I don't sense fromm all the many Jamaican fighters Ive seen that they have that in them. Ukrainians could only turn pro in the late 90s. Jamiacans have always been able to.
