Velasquez looked as if he was going to be KO'd every time Kongo connected with a shot in their fight. His stand-up and chin looked pretty poor. The only things that won him that fight were his superb wrestling and ground-game (though he did seem powerless to pound Kongo out despite having him on the matt for long periods). If Kongo had a decent skillset/any sort of ground game or takedown defence, he would've sparked Velasquez. Shane Carwin may not be a great wrestler or a great BJJ technician, but like Lesnar, his awesome physical strength and sheer bulk will make him very difficult to take down and/or keep down. He hits harder than Kongo too. Velasquez will be KO'd for sure. :bbb
I didn't see the Velasquez vs Kongo fight but I heard about it. Carwin has it out for Lesnar, and out of Carwin & Velasquez I think Carwin has a better chance to beat that gorilla overrated redneck. Velasquez is talented but I'll take Carwin too. I wanna see Crock fight someone his own size now.
I agree Carwin KOs Velasquez. Carwin has a lot of power in his punches and we've seen that Cain's chin is not that good, even though his recovery was pretty fast. Still neither guy is going to beat Lesnar I don't think.
I disagree that Velasquez showed a poor chin. He took MONSTER shots from Kongo, he actually walked into the first one, and recovered very quickly. He recovered quickly every time actually. He has a good chin and even better recovery powers. I was impressed with Valesquez.
If Lesnar is an overrated Gorilla redneck and considered the 2nd best heavyweight after Fedor, then how does that reflect on MMA?
if carwin can get past valesquez(which i think he can)he will just be another name that lesnar has destoryed, and then you can hate him even more..lol:-D
Surviving shots of Kongo is a sign of a good chin, not bad. Cain is young, nearly as powerful, and much more technical and skilled.
Velasquez was in trouble every time Kongo connected. That much is true. If Kongo had any takedown defence, or any wrestling, or any BJJ whatsoever, Velasquez would've been easily beaten. It was his own one-dimensional nature that allowed Velasquez to survive, not Velasquez's resilience. Carwin hits far harder than Kongo. FAR harder. His KO of Gonzaga was a textbook example of true natural KO power. Watch Rafa Marquez's KO of Heriberto Ruiz. Then watch Hasim Rahman's KO of Lennox Lewis. Both are clean single-shot KOs. However, Rahman's is an absolutely massive swing. Rafa's is a short smooth, seemingly innocuous punch. The difference between these two is a KO by a decent puncher who lands with a huge and fortuitous punch (Rahman) and a KO by someone who is born with KO power (Rafa). Shane Carwin KO'd Gaby Gonzaga with a Marquez-style punch. No huge swing, no great backswing, no huge leverage. Short, smooth, sweet, utterly ****ing devastating. Only men born with that power that issue KOs with that type of punch. And a 260lbs+ man who has that power will KO Cain Velasquez early. I absolutely guarantee it and will make any bet with anyone on the subject, and win. Velasquez's chin did not look strong against Kongo. The effect of every punch was visible. Against Carwin, it will crumble.
i gotta say, i fear for Cain but think he has the tools to win. i don't know how but i hope he can pull out the victory. if Carwin does win, he would match well againts Brock. it would be nice to see Brock match againts sombody his own size. Carwin's hands are bigger than Brocks!!!!:yikes
Carwin was getting schooled by Gonzaga on the feet until Gonzaga stood in the pocket. For all his "explosiveness", Carwin is pretty awkward and goony. Velasquez is a lot more coordinated and athletic. Sure he could get ko'd by a clean shot from Carwin (perhaps the same with Lesnar as well) but that shot would have to land and I don't know that quicker guys will stand there for that. You have to remember, for all his many flaws Kongo is a great striker and has very good range and timing and accuracy. I haven't seen anything but raw power from Carwin adn it doesn't matter how much of that you have if it doesn't land. We've also never seen Carwin deal with someone who really knows what they're doing try to take him down. The only one who tried (that I know of at least) was Gonzaga and he succeeded. Velasquez was a D1 champ to Carwin's D2, so he's at least as good a wrestler and more likely better. I suspect that Velasquez will try to take him down right away and work for a sub, as he has a much better rep in that regard than Carwin does working off his back.
