Casamayor-Barrera? You've got to be kidding me. Despite it's obvious market potential and superfight qualities, Casamayor is the WORLD LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION. Barrera did not earn a title shot. He lost to Juan Manuel Marquez. This fight should not happen. I like Barrera, but seriously. And yes, Casmayor has the perfect style to defeat Barrera. He'd keep him turning and guessing with his southpaw style and fantastic hand speed (his ol' one two is so crisp, it makes Lay's potato chips seem redundant).
Intell his recent "retirement" I consered Marco Antonio Barrera to be my favroite active boxer. He is a proven Hall of Famer. As a fan I would love to see him make history and become the first boxer from Mexico to win world tittles in four weight classes. If this fight happens I will no doubt root for him. However there are reasons that i don't think this match up should be made. First off I think a tittle chlanger should have to "earn" his shot this usualy means wining your last fight. Barrera has lost his last two fights it is true that they were both to outstanding opoents Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao, but that is still two stright losses. He also has not fought sence June of last year. With the exception of a champion/titleist having to take a long time off due to injury I think a boxer should have to win one fight before getting a championship fight. If this match gets made I will be a complete hipacryt and show my support for the "Baby Faced Assassin" from the seconed I learn that the match has been made.
Even with both fighters shot and not even CLOSE to their best years, I'd love to see that. Between that and Casamayor-Campbell, the 135 division could be run by old geezers who hate each other.
