Wow! Deja-vu! -10th round -counter left hook -Katsidis almost flying into the Tecate ring post But was it a check hook? In rd10, Hatton moved in to land a left and Mayweather caught him with a perfect counter hook sending Ricky to the Tecate ring post... Who cares what kind of hook it was? It was the kind of hook to finish a guy off, that's all that matters.
Nah I dont think that was check left hook. If Casa was moved to the other side of Kats and landed the left then I would say yea, Casa's looked like just a regular old fashioned hook. Actually if you ask me it looked kinda like a hook/bolo punch, A "technical" hook is usually more compact than the one that Casa landed

i have been boxing for a long time, before the hatton mayweather fight i had never heard of a check hook, now i see it on the board here alot more, what is a check hook? i asked many top level boxers i know and none of them had heard of it
Best of my knowledge, a check hook is halfway between a hook and an upper cut, and essentially done off of your back foot, or while moving backwards anyway. And it's definitely been around forever, but it's fairly difficult to do effectively, so we just don't see it that often
The first time I saw it, I immediately thought CHECK HOOK! But now that I've watched it about 15 times, I think it's just a really gorgeous left cross.
it seems its a new word some internet fans have learnt and they are all looking for a chance to use it
has everyone forgot that casa is a ****ing southpaw. it was more of a 1-2 with the cross having a slight curve to it. a cheack hook is a defencive roots manuva in which you throw the left hook and land the same time as the other to keep the punch in check. but as you use the foreward inertia of the opponant you will get better results form yours
