There was a recent thread about Barry McGuigan's Mex. ATG list.
Could there be a case made for any of these fighters to be at least included on that list?

Jose Luis Ramirez- Had over 100 victories. didn't deserve the decision against Whitaker. In as much as he did deserve the nod against Rosario in thier first fight.

Raton Macias- Very tough & popular fighter.

Pipino Cuevas- Holds Welterweight record for most consecutive title defenses won by knockout(10).

Rafael Limon- One of the toughest Mexican fighters ever. a cakewalk for noone.

Humberto Gonzalez- Big banger, but also underrated boxer. Very respected champion.

None of them have legitimate claims in my book.

I think you could make a better case for Rodolfo Martinez or Rodolfo Chango Cassanova

Cuevas is the youngest welterweight champ ever

Gonzalez has a solid resume as well

Cuevas is considered a great in Mexico

Cuevas I believe was the first Mexican to hold a title at 147.

Turned pro at 14 champion at age 20...he was also the youngest welterweight champ ever I think

He held his title for 3 years against more experienced talent.

he was 15-6 when he fought Angel Espada for the world title and won it

He beat Campanino, Weston, Backus, Espada (2 times), and Ranzany

FYI-Addie this thread is in regards to ATG Mexican fighters...not ATG's in general so in light of that you might agree that he is in Mexico's top 20 :good

Ps Humberto Gonzalez is a Jr Flyweight and could arguably be the greatest ever at 108

Cuevas for sure. The terror of the WW division from 1976-80, leaving behind a slew of KO victims. You needn't say more.

Not at all. He wasn't consistant in his prime in terms of performances, and he lost the most significant fight in his trilogy with Carbajal. Moreover, he wasn't as well rounded and naturally gifted as some of the other candidates. Great fighter though, I have like 12 of his fights on DVD.

You say he lost the most significant match... however, in the rematches he consistently outboxed Carbajal. They were boring but he dominated Carbajal all 24 rounds....

Great Classical post:good Yey you can make a case for cassanova being in the top 10 mexican greats besides beating Armstrong,Arizmendi,Dado,Zurita(several times),Wolgast he beat Freddie Miller who is considered by many close to a top 10 all time featherweight you notice between 8:30 and 9:59 he had a standing ovation even bigger than Kid Azteca at 8:18
