Veteran boxer Joe Choynski arrived in Galveston, ostensibly to give boxing lessons to members of the Galveston Athletic Club. Actually, he was there to take on Johnson. Many in the local boxing establishment thought Johnson was cocky, and they had brought Choynski in to knock Johnson down a peg. On the evening of February 25, 1901, the veteran and the newcomer met in Galveston's Harmony Hall. Choynski knocked out Johnson in the third round, just as the Texas Rangers arrived. Both men were arrested for engaging in an illegal contest. They spent 23 days in jail together, and Sheriff Henry Thomas allowed a crowd to gather at the jail every afternoon to watch the two men spar. Choynski was impressed by Johnson's skill, and told him "A man who can move like you should never have to take a punch."

But he couldn't knock him out, he stopped him. A glass jaw opponent would not keep getting up over and over, they'd stay down and get counted out.

Moorer did not have amazing punch resistance but he did have good recovery. He got off the floor to beat Cooper in an amazing slug fest.

Only 2 people ever kept him on the canvas for the 10 count in 57 fights. 1 of those losses was when he was way past his prime against a murderous puncher who jumped on him from the opening bell. The other was a sneaky right hand from a crafty heavy handed veteran in a late round KO in a fight he was dominating and let his guard down.

    I'd rate his chin a 5.5-6/10 and his recovery a 7/10

What would you rate Evander Holyfield’s punching power?

6.5-7/10 when he puts all his weight into shots.

He did manage to deck Bowe and Mercer who were pretty tough at their peaks but couldn't finish them. Made Foreman go into his shell a few times.

If you can force iron chinned guys to respect you and not simply walk through your shots, you have above average power bare minimum.

Alan Minter getting blasted by Tony Sibson was a big shock at the time. Marvin Hagler couldn't drop Alan but Sibson properly knocked him out.

Dwight Muhammad Qawi getting easily KOed by Evander Holyfield in their cruiserweight rematch. Qawi was 34 and his best days were at Light heavyweight but still, it was a surprise to see him get knocked down twice and counted out, just a year after going 15 brutal rounds against Holyfield in their first fight.
