The sun is out,and I'm feeling in a surreal mood :D Which of these versions of the great man would win ? Although the best ever version of Muhammad was the 1966/67 incarnation,I feel that his 1974 self would just about have the edge on the 1964 model. Thoughts ?

Nah, I still feel that the edge in speed and workrate would see Clay win the day more times than not. Older Ali would probably be able to set some traps and rock Clay now and then, but his recuperating powers were tremendous (as shown against Banks and Cooper), so he'd probably bounce back on most occassions. In 10 fights Clay would perhaps win 6 (all decisions) and draw 1.

Ali would murder him. Clay's career is comparable to Naseem Hamed's. Big mouthed hype job who met his match and was schooled by a real champ, Frazier/Barrera respectively. Coincidence that Clay dissappeared from the scene as greats such as Ali(Morales and Foreman(Pacquiao) were emerging? I think not. Both would have ****ing his whole world up. Clay ducked Ali.

    Clay by UD.
I'll take Clay's superior handspeed, workrate, foot/head movement & reflexes over the power, toughness & experience of Ali.

This is what Ali himself had to say (at 8.20):

The pre-fight press conferences would definitely be a media man's dream ! "I'm the greatest. Ali,you're fast and you're pretty, but I'm even faster and prettier than you, because I'm younger than you,old man" "Clay,it is I who am the greatest. I know all your strategy for this fight. I invented it..."

I wouldn't say easy. The Jones fight wasn't even a year before he met Liston, but showed that a physically inferior opponent with skill and experience could give Clay quite a lot of trouble.

That Clay would get beat by a focussed and fit Ali of '74 IMO.

EDIT: By the way, I think it's too bad that Jones went down hill quite quickly afterwards. Would love to see a rematch between Ali of 65-67 and a Jones still on the top of his game.

Some say Doug Jones was robbed because of the rising greatness that would become Ali.

I think 64 Clay outspeeds 74 Ali and takes a UD, but not without getting battered for a few rounds by the heavier version.

    64 Ali wins a UD I think.
