Amos Lincoln was willing to fight Cassius Clay for nothing in the 1961,
    and in Miami Beach.

Lincoln did propose, that he would not take a fight purse, if Clay would agree to a June 1961 bout.

Lincoln had put up a challenge thru the Miami News newspaper.
Amos claimed that Cassius Clay's next bout, in June and in Las Vegas
was versus a walking heavy-bag.......Duke Sabedong.

Lincoln, said he was going to Las Vegas, and was going into Sabedong's dressing room before the fight,
and lock him in a closet. 'I'll then run into the ring wearing Duke's robe, then Clay will have no place to go,
and you'll see him run. And if he does run,,,,,,,,I'll chase him down because I'm faster.'

The 25-year-old, 6' 2" 210 lb. Lincoln, has a record of 26-3-1 (17 KO's) and his considered one of the more dangerous fighters in the division, mainly because of his deadly right hand counter.

Amos Lincoln "Big Train" no doubt wanted an early seat on the potential "Money Train" but he was not the only Amos to shout for clay, Amos Johnson was often calling for Clay, reminding that he owned an amatuer Victory Over Clay, in an Article in boxing Illusutrated, Johnson also recalled how he Floored and handled George Chuvalo with ease in sparring. However he had Lost to Kent Green who Also had an Amatuer Victory over Clay, So if Cassius was going looking for pro revenge on anyone Mr. Johnson perhaps thought "He who shouts Loudest..." ?

Both Amos's subsequently did any ranking apirations they might of harboured no good by both going out quickly and Tamely to a old Creaking Sonny Liston. who Amos used to regularly Spar, In truth both Amos's were starting to creak themselves at this stage

"Big Train" Lincoln earlier seemed to be getting up a head of Steam when he was derailed by Lt Heavy Stylist Johnny Persol
Both were good Fringe contenders who added their own bit of Ink to the 60's Heavy scene.

As i recall a young Jerry Quarry benefitted from Sparring "Big Train" Lincoln

    Good info.

Lot's of interesting stories you are bringing up of the late 50's to mid-sixties days in boxing.

The sports pages were full of good boxing info back then...and many regional favorite fighters...even if they weren't the best in boxing talent.

Amos 'Big Train", popular west-coast fighter, both in Oregon, and in California.
Chin could be somewhat shaky, as his night-life activities took their toll on him.

Would have been too much for a young Cassius Clay in mid-1961.
Another one of those 'could-have-been' fighters.

He did say, if he was 'white', he would have had at least '3' title shots.

What does it say about a guy who has been a pro for seven years when he calls out a guy with just six fights under his belt...

    Amos was one 'strange cat'..

But I think it had to do with Amos beating Duke Sabedong 3x in previous fights.
Probably just looking to make some noise, and get his name in the press.

You know Mr. Klompton,,,,,self-promotion wasn't only reserved for one
    Cassius Clay

Remember, Cassius called out INGO, for $100,000 in a 6-Round bout.
Of course, no one ever found out who was putting up the money,,,,,,,,
    because,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,there was 'no one'

If you know any 1960's boxing history, Amos Lincoln a pretty good
heavyweight, who was 'wild and crazy'.

Just posted an article from The Vegas Sun, from 1961.

Oh Pachilles, you can come over to my house now, your mother is done.

It's nothing more than a found article, with another fighter challenging another.

What do you want to hear,,,,,another Muhammad Ali story about calling
    Floyd Patterson, 'The Rabbit'
or that the U.S. Government ruined his career for 3 years.

C'mon,,,,,,,,'variety is the spice of life'

Not this post in particular. I'm asking you in general, what your problem is with him? I get a vibe from you like you were involved in the fight game around that era or something:huh
