Has anyone seen this new documentary? I have an old documentary with Harry Carpenter called I Cassius which contains alot of candid interviews with Muhammad Aii , his mother Odessa Clay , Joe Martin and many other local Louisville residents but this new one has contributions from author Thomas Hauser looks interesting!

Cassius Clay is so much better a name than Muhammad Ali. It even sounds badass.

Ironically the original Cassius Clay from the state of Kentucky was a high profile anti slavery abolistionist instrumental in the campaign to end slave ownership across the United States!

Yeah, I always found it ironic. I can understand where Ali was coming from though.

It seemed to me like an alternative to the civil rights movement at the time and him wanting to explore his African heritage and attempt to find answers about racial injustice. It is interesting to know that it was actually his brother Rudolph Clay (Rahman Ali) who really persuaded young Cassius Clay to join the Nation of Islam who was quite hesistant about it

Cassius X sounds more intimidating than either of those.

Muhammad Ali was the name given to him by Elijah Muhammad. Muhammad was the last prophet and Ali means most highest in Arabic but yeah he liked his birth name. I'm watching it now. His bragadoccio still makes me chuckle. What a life force.

All the religious and my Identity stuff aside ..Cash Or Ali is the most overrated fighter of all time. All of his wins inside of the ring speak for them selves and all of his activism outside the ring have nothing to do with him as a Boxer. When people throw the two together makes an unfair argument.

How is a boxer who beat four Olympic Gold Medalists, six members of the International Boxing Hall Of Fame, virtually cleaned out his division in two different decades, and beat two consensus top ten all time great heavyweights and one bubble top ten heavyweight overrated? If Muhammad Ali is overrated so is Tom Brady, Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Lionel Messi, Roger Federer and Tiger Woods.

The athletes you mentioned never won by their competion taking a dive and or was gifted wins and still called the best ever like Ali was.
Ali's record sure looks good on paper but he isent the greatest ever.
The iconic image of Ali standing over Liston after Liston took a dive speaks for itself or the amount of fights he was gifted like against Young for example.

Is your argument that Muhammad Ali is the only athlete to be a beneficiary of a controversial decision or call ? As to the Young fight maybe if he didn't duck his head out of the ring on several occasions which according to the rules he should have been given a standing eight count he might have got the decision. In any case he was in the twilight of his great career and had already beat four Olympic Gold Medalists, six members of the International Boxing Hall Of Fame, virtually cleaned out his division in two different decades, and beat two consensus top ten all time great heavyweights and one bubble top ten heavyweights.
