I don't know about that. Corrales went down several times and clearly needed a breather. 10 seconds can come and go pretty fast when you are shaken up like he was. Getting another 20 seconds or so can make a huge difference.

Well, thank god they didn’t DQ Corrales. It added to the drama.

Still weirded out by that guy who tries to cradle Corrales after the stoppage.

Fighters have always bent the rules to gain a tactical advantage, some have dropped to a knee, some tie up and lean on the opponent , some spit out the mouth piece. That he was cognizant enough to realize he was in very serious trouble and needed a few extra seconds to get himself right is A credit to him. Unlike Hearns who loss against Leonard and Hagler because he wasn't savvy enough to stall for time.

I agree about fighters have always bent the rules, I would not really call it cheating, cheating would be padding your gloves, or drinking a mix with stimulants and or other drugs to help you perform better, or cutting your gloves to buy time or putting something on your gloves to blind someone temporarlly.
And who is to to say with his severely swollen face, mouth, and all with all the punches he had taken that he could not breath properly and just had to spit it out, we've never been in that position before, I boxed for years in the gym and minor bouts, but never had to take that kind of punishmnet. Maybe he did it on purpose to buy time or maybe he was not thinking clearly, I've never heard him say in any interviews has anyone else, even so I don't call it cheating, he earned the victory,
Castillo had him and did not finish him. Greatest fight ever, in some's opinion it could be, but there are too many great fights in history for there to be just 1 for us all.
I'm just many people call a fight the greatest for many reasons, our opinions are too different, but a great, awesome fight yes, one of the best rounds in history for sure.
