Castillo, Corrales, MAB, Morales, JMM

Your right and your wrong. I'm not just basing it on those fights alone, to each his own on who actually won those, but Castillo having quality wins over very good fighters like Casamayor who was a force to be reckoned with in his prime along with a number of other worthy former world champions is the reason why I rank him so high. I would rate Barrera over him, no problem, they're all great, Barrera seemed to dominate B-level opponents with ease, but I just can't overlook what Castillo has done even though he never had the backing Morales or Barrera had. He doesn't seem to have the skill level of JMM, MAB, or Morales, but sometimes determination can win over skills and Castillo had alot of it.

 

Name the A level fighters that Castillo, Marquez, and Morales dominated? I'll wait.

There is no basis for having Jose Luis Castillo ranked higher than Marco Antonio Barrera.

You're entitled to your opinion, but Marquez hasn't shown superior longevity over Barrera.

 

When you break down their top 10 wins, its clear MAB/Morales are at top.

up until he faught keneddy mab was not faceing world beaters himself an shortly after that epic hbo after dark classic he ran in to junior jones were he reinvinted his style were i give him credit for his versatility . but jmm got a later jump due to bad managment his style has let him continue to be great this long into his his age of 36 wich happens to be same as mab who is not still doing at hig level fighting 1-7 guys an guys with16 losses.

Juan Manuel Marquez didn't fight an elite fighter until 2003. Marco Antonio Barrera had already went through one of the most brutal fights of all time 3 years prior to that, and would go on to fight Naseem Hamed and Erik Morales whilst Marquez was fighting Johnny Walker and Robbie Peden.

What is it you don't understand? Barrera burned out because he started his career much earlier than Marquez did, and because he was fighting tougher opponents from 1997-2003.

 

I'm not rating Castillo, Marquez, or Morales higher because of A level fighters they did or didn't dominate, I'm rating these guys higher because of how I rate their performance on their most important fights, the fights that really mattered. Salvador Sanchez didn't always dominate fighters like Chavez did, but he had more significant wins over 2 atg's, wins that mattered. Like I said, I'd most likely put these guys on par because they all had great performances against the very best and others not so great, and then their's different factors like fanbases which Castillo and JMM had smaller numbers compared to Morales and MAB, but just because of that, I'm not going to be a sheep and not give JMM and Castillo the credit they really deserve. A controversial win doesn't equate to a victory IMO. And JMM had many of those. Castillo won fights I didn't think he would win or should of won, like he did with Floyd, Johnston, and Casamayor. Stevie Johnston was another worthy fighter of mention Castillo won and drew with. Johnston in his prime was a tricky, masterful southpaw that had beaten Floyd in the amatuers and very hard to beat.

 

So far you haven't made a good case for having Castillo higher?
