This content is protected Castillo weight problems again? #1 contender Timothy "Desert Storm" Bradley (21-0, 11 KOs) weighed 143.5 lbs at his seven-day weigh-in, well below the 147 lbs. maximum allowed for Saturday's WBC super lightweight title elimination bout against #2 rated Jose Luis Castillo in Cancun. Castillo (56-8-1, 48 KOs) in his last WBC report, did not include his seven-day weight. The former two-time lightweight champion Castillo, who has a history of not making weight for fights, reportedly weighed 151 lbs at his 30-day weigh-in, leading to rampant speculation that he may struggling to make the 140lb weight limit. "The rules are explicit and we expect the WBC to enforce them," said Gary Shaw, Bradley's co-promoter. "I've been down this road too many times with Castillo and I will not tolerate it again. Castillo, his manager and promoter have a responsibility to adhere to the rules and the WBC is equally accountable to enforce them. It's the only way to maintain a level playing field for both fighters. Bradley is fighting a very popular ex-WBC champion in his own backyard, I don't think we're asking too much. All parties know Castillo's history for not making weight. I'm confident the WBC will make sure Castillo and his team don't try to manipulate the scale at the official weigh-in like they did for the first rematch with Diego Corrales. How it got to this point, four days from the fight, is incomprehensible and inexcusable." Bradley is promoted by Gary Shaw Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions. Tuesday, March 4 2008 Goddamn Castillo and those weight issues.
Well, 151 pounds 30 days before the fight is pretty good. I don't think JLC had any problem losing 4 pounds in 3 weeks... but if he had, it's impossible for him to make 140 in a week. Castillo is (was) a great warrior but fighting an ELIMINATOR, so getting a chance to be called as the BEST CONTENDER available is a joke at this stage of his career. And breaking a WBC's rules and probably getting away with it because he's got a good relationship with Mr. Sulaiman is even worse.
well to be honest if he does not make the weight then he is pathetic and not professional he had a long time to prepare for this fight he isnt very big so should make the light welter limit with ease if he trained properly he will show me that he is finished if he doesnt make the weight
Gary Shaw is a fat piece of ****. Maybe that fatass ***** should attend a JLC training camp and lose some weight his damn self. I bet it's much to do about nothing, Castillo will most likely make weight. I heard before the Hatton fight he was broke, kind of a motivation killer sometimes. WAR Castillo
the only fact there is that castillo was 11 pounds over with 30 days to go........ that fat slob gary shaw should stick to MMA and leave boxing alone....
but can castillo against carrales the 3rd time (wen he lost on the scales) he weighed 140 the after trana shed some weight weighed exactly te same
If Castillo does indeed not make weight and can't fight in the eliminator he will really have shot himself in the foot. Castillo is not the fighter who was doing big time work at 135 and to be in a title eliminator at 140 w/o doing anything was a blessing for him. It's not like Bradley is pfp guy either. He probably can beat Castillo right now but Castillo had a shot here. He could have found himself in a title fight by merely beating one Tim Bradley. Not a bad position for the old warrior. He may never get this oppurtunity again. If he has to move up to 147, well he may as well retire. He'd get butchered up there.
