I've been a casual fan of boxing for years and over last couple of years been watching a lot more and come on here to try and gain abit more knowledge about fighters I haven't seen much of. M I've not seen alot of Liam smith just known him as Paul and Callum's brother really! Has he got a realistic chance against canelo? Thanks in advance to any sensible response
He has as much as a chance as you can have over there, he is big at the weight, strong and fit goes to the body well so if Canelo is drained then maybe just maybe he could pull it off
Canelo is drained every fight and it does make you think that one day he will really struggle because of it,regardless of how he rehydrates. I don't think it will be this Saturday night though Smith is a tough cookie and I don't even think the occasion will get to him as it would some.He will have the attitude of having nothing to lose and everything to gain I see Canelo winning on points UD.
Thanks for the replys. A lot is mentioned about him being drained making weight. I don't really understand it that well as I assumed every fighter would get down to the lowest weight they could to gain a so called advantage and be (big for the weight) So as everyone was doing it I thought this would level the playing field? I'm not a troll I'm just trying to educate myself on the matter
canelo does well against people on the front foot, and less against movers. canelo will be teeing off combo's on liam who has a nice tight guard, smith will have to smart and drill canelo in the body all the time, hes not as fast as canelo so he will be picking off single hurtful shots. canelo isnt a huge puncher, i think he wins a UD
In theory your not far off but Canelo weighs in 155 for this one be 154 and allegedly hydrates anywhere from 175 to 185 on fight night a huge gain, contrast that to GGG being 165 a month from the Brook fight where he weighed in 160, from my limited knowledge seems commonplace to gain anywhere from 6-14 lbs, to gain between 20 and 30 you'd have to guess he is hugely dehydrated at the weigh in, add to that when he was over by 1lb in searing heat with a sweatsuit on he couldn't even get a sweat on to get the lb off.
His biggest problem is the gulf in class. He has fought no one to prepare him for a guy who has been in with some top class fighters. I predict a late OK stoppage for Alavarez. Smith just looks to basic to cause him many problems and he's no puncher at world level. If the weight rumors are true that give him a chance someone grinding in digging in body shots isnt going to feel so good but Alavarez is relatively young so hes probably got a few more fights in him of getting away with it.
***** it I'm going with liam looks good at the weight instead of killing himself he will take canelhoe the full distance but will not get a decision out there and kell would beat liam pretty handily imo
hes decent, his style is perfect for canelo to look good against though which is why they picked liam smith. Not ruling out the upset though
Smith is not without advantages...mainly physical ones. Canelo won't out size him the way he has other opponents. If Canelos risky weight strategy catches up to him....... Let's sY smith has an outside chance ...longer it goes and more physical it is the better....
He will definitely go the distance. But never in a million years is he winning a decision, even if he wins 12 rounds.
Alvarez is so experienced at such a young age. To have had nearly 50 fights is incredible. You could see in that Khan fight that he was patient and just waiting for his chance to KO him. He's shown that he's adaptable. I really hope Liam can win but I think the ref will stop this in the later rounds.
