Catch weights, where did it all start?

    Out of curiosity I just checked up and when Henry Armstrong won the Lightweight title against Lou Ambers his welter title wasn't on the line.

    I remember on the old British TV show Seconds Out, undefeated 175lber Nicky Piper was topping the bill, but his opponent pulled out, and on less than 24 hours notice Piper agreed to fight this journyman Cruiserweight, by the name of Carl Thompson...:hey

    Piper lost his '0':yep
