how do you guys feel about it? I dont mind them but at the same time. You shouldnt be able to win a title in a catch weight fight? agree or disagree

seriously not calling anyone out in particular but how can you call yourself the WBC middle weight champion when you won the belt at a catch weight? 140-147 range and then you never put the belt back on the line against another 154 pounder. Thats just silly to me makes no sense.

Catchweights are bull****, we need to go back to 8 weight classes and 1 belt. Simples!

I don't have a problem with catchweight fights as long as they aren't for a title.

calling yourself champion of a specific weight class and having the belt but never have actually gone to that weight is silly, and it dont mean anything in my eyes.

exactly you gotta earn that belt, part of obtaining and earning the belt is to fight the champion at his weight class not below or above

    Nope.
I can understand the "if the champ is willing" position, but in reality it means "you won't get this big payday fight unless you agree with cutting weight". And then going around "defending" it on a catchweight too or even abandoning it entirely.

I'm ok with it if no belt is on the line.

Catchweights are almost as old as boxing and are normal in every way. They allow fights that wouldn't otherwise have come to fruition to occur.

As to this notion that they "didn't actually win the title at that actual weight", that is utter nonsense. Light-heavyweight is any fight that occurs between 147.1 and 154 exactly. A 148lb fighter versus a 151lb fighter IS a light-middleweight fight and so can be a light-middleweight title fight.

Finally two ADULT MALES singing contracts stipulating what weight a fight will be at within the paramaters of a given division is completely normal in boxing and not somethng that a mature human being needs to be protected from.

This debate is bull**** and has been from day one. It's incredible to me that it's caused so much anxt.

Nowt' wrong with them. Many great fights in history would never have taken place if catchweights weren't allowed. It bridges the gap between two fighters in two seperate weight classes that wanna' fight each other.

if it gets two top level guys from different weight classes in the ring together that's great, but leave the title out of it

catch weight fights are cool just not for belts, leave the belts out of them theres a reason we have different weight classes its so we can have guys fighting the same size guys so the fights are competitive. hypothetically speaking say im a crusarweight and your a heavy weight how can i logically ask you to fight me for your heavy weight title if we are not actually going to fight at the heavyweight weight? It should be my title on the line if at all.

Boxing is a business now days.
Someone should buy* three of the biggest organizations, merge them and make new rules. They would own the names and it would be recognized as the legit belt.
    Maybe...

We'd have to take away Sugar Ray Leonard's little donny Lalonde thing; if the champ signs the contract and its actually in the weight division (ie 141-147 is welter) then I'm okay with the belt being on the line.

I agree i don't mind them because it allows some great fights that wouldnt have happened otherwise to happen. The problem is when the fights involve a belt for me

    Dont really like them.

But if its the only way we get to see fights that otherwise wouldnt happen so be it, as long as its fair for both fighters.
