Whilst i can accept the concept of catchweight fights what really annoys me is catchweight title fights, we all know the promoter pulls the strings with contracts etc but when it comes to an actual title on the line then the governing bodies need to say a strict no to any contract clause that says either fighter can only weigh a certain amount i.e below the weight category limit, so do you think it's right, wrong or not an issue
Catchweight World Championships are bs and disrespectful to the Greats of the past....Imagine if the Legends of the past used Catchweights?
catweights are unacceptable, this is just a poor tactic used to get an advantage over an opponent from a lower/higher weight class, and as Sug3 said, it's disrespectful to the legends of boxing
Catchweights are nothing new. Even those legends fought at catchweights... http://halestormsports.com/2012/05/...n-the-11-most-influential-catchweight-fights/
It's simple. If two fighters from different weight classes agree to fight, a catchweight can be used. When two fighters hold belts in the same weight class, it is not appropriate. SRL v Lalonde = right, FMJ v Canelo = wrong. Cotto vs Martinez? Makes some sense considering Cotto is moving up to a new weight class. 159 sounds like a fair compromise considering Cotto is fighting a naturally bigger man. In general, catchweights are hard to do, which is why there are weight classes.
I don't agree with catchweight title fights, Pac and roach drain fighter as much as possible to win a belt
Catchweights are fine to 'even it up' between a big and small fighter but the middleweight title should be fought with a limit of 160lbs. If you're unwilling to fight a guy who may weigh in at 160lbs then you shouldn't fight for the title, just call it a non-title fight. This isn't just about Cotto but Mayweather, Pac, SRL etc.
how about Floyd dragging Marquez up 2 divisions, then still not making the agreed CW? he and his people are just as bad as Pac's when it comes to giving their fighterevery possible advantage
Unless it gets two fighters in the ring where it was otherwise hugely unlikely, i don't agree with them.
