Interesting article on long term benefits of Steroid use ... https://out.reddit.com/t3_6p02r0?ur...Izq2xcu8QTgFblgq-oGP1iGTM&app_name=reddit.com Makes interesting reading and for me more evidence and justification that a zero tolerance approach with life bans for any offence of steroid abuse in professional sports.
i agree but im not sure where the line is drawn, didnt roy jones get caught with what is a basic pre workout supplement that you or me could buy over the counter ? i dont think thats a lifetime ban imho but maybe it would be if all pro fighters had to list all supplements they are taking into maybe an online profiling system and it flags you if you try and submit something illegal
I think you should get one chance when you're under a certain age (say 23 or so) with like a 1-2 year ban. Just for young and stupid fighters that may get led astray. After that it should be life.
it would be a mess. because fighters would be claiming some one put some thing in there drink or food. lots of fighters would say the unknowingly took a supplement or they been drugged some way. after u get caught once u should always have to get tested randomly and frequently
Nobody know what Roy Jones was caught with- his team claimed it was a supplement that contained the same ingredient he popped for. Highly skeptical
Crikey life time bans. Would their be any Yanks left in the Olympics or Baseball Players to that matter if they all got indefinitely banned after once caught?
A 12-24 month ban is the reason why it is worth taking the risk. Lifetime bans, no exceptions. But, I don't think even that will deter people. If you are on the peripherals of making it, but can't quite get there, in any sport, you are going to take that risk to give you a boost, and you'll probably get away with it too as long as you do your research and a bit of digging. So really, on top of life time bans, you are going to have to throw the full weight of the law at them. Bang them up for 20 years for fraud. Harsh but fair. Either that or you legalise it all.... ...or we carry on pretending that it is only a minority of sportsmen who cheat.
If you test positive once you get suspended. You get popped again harsher penalty. A 3rd time deserves a lifetime ban.
To this day former fastest man in the world Ben Johnson claims dethroned fastest man in the world carl lewis put a banned substance in his beer beer before testing. When questioned about this even years after the incident carl lewis said "someone put something in his beer, oh well" The very nature of people in general to sabotage and discredit their competition would discourge a lifetime ban.
I don't think it's workable or even wise until you have year-round random blood testing. Has to be standard once you get a license.
Carl Lewis tested positive for PEDs prior to the 1988 100m final, at the US trials. He was let off the hook because he claimed "it must have been that cough medicine I was taking". Only 2 guys in that 1988 100m final haven't tested positive for PEDs during their career. Now the fact that the guys today are running even faster than the juicers of yesterday, much faster in fact, should make anyone highly suspicious as to how they are achieving this feat. They are all at it, in every sport.
This then explains how AJ and other athletes haven't been caught doping. They used years ago and they're still reaping the benefits. There's no way to catch people doing this. They'll always have this colossal advantage.
