how do you know if you have cauliflower ear or not? I had a fight a couple days ago and now my ear has this ball of fluid in it. It's slightly red and about the size of a pea, but it never hurt.

You probably have it, all you need to do is drain out the fluid and you'll be fine. If not it will harden and you can't do anything about it.

Go to a doctor or someone who knows what they're doing to drain it.

Don't just jam a needle from mom's sewing kit in there. Sounds like common sense but people still do it. Last thing you want is to get it infected.

Update: So i did wind up going to the doctor, he said it wasn't cauliflower ear, it was a "hematoma in your ear". By definition, cauliflower ear IS a hematoma in your ear.

Regardless, he cut it, blood came out, and somehow the next day it sealed up and filled with blood again, I think because the doctor didn't really put a proper dressing on it? Well anyways, I had my dad cut it again with a sterilized razor, and we used gauze and gigantic shooting earmuffs to put pressure on it (so it wouldn't seal up again). It was really super painful but i left it on for 3 days to allow it to heal, and it worked.

It's been a month or so and I have a permanent scar in my ear, but its nothing like what it was, and you wouldn't see it unless you knew it was there. Moral: get it drained by a doctor, but make sure they put a dressing on it the puts pressure on the wound.

The moral is do it yourself with an old needle you found in the back alley.
