For anyone who trains mma or done any sort of grappling.

Do you have them? Do you wear them as a badge of honor?

Josh Barnett has his ears cleaned and syringed regularly. I dont understand the guys that just let there ears stay infected and tend to wear them as a badge of honour. Some can be real nasty.

They don't stay infected. I have them slightly... not too noticable unless I point it out, because of the way that it formed. What happens is that when you first get it, it is like a big sac of liquid formed underneathe the skin. Now, you can either get it drained at that point... or wait until it hardens up. I got mine at the begining of the season, so I wasn't about to take time off to get them drained, which even afterwards they drain out and you have to wear a big bandage on them. So... I just tried to wait it out until the end of the season. Well... by the time that I got to State's.... they hardened up withen that week. Sort of sucked, but mine didn't end up too bad. I had some friends that look awful.

Anyways... they harden up, and at that point you can't get them drained. They are as solid as a rock.

I never got em. I wrestler for 3 years and practiced without headgear. Maybe its just the way I wrestle. Most 215s I wrestled didn't have cauliflower except that one dude from Oklahoma who was like top5 in the state. I think he wrestled since he could walk though.

To be honest... I never had a problem in all of the open tournaments that I wrestled in without headgear. Also... I wrestled since I was 6 years old, and didn't get it until I was a Junior in High School. Mine was not caused from the impact into my ears... it was caused by the headgear itself sliding and rubbing up against my ears.

That's true, though i only participated in few open tournaments it wasn't a problem what so ever. My guess is, some ears are just more resistant than others. I actually had the problem you described with head gear when I practice with it once. It broke(fold or w/e) my cartilage it puffed up a little bit but it just went away.

I have slight caulliflowering in one ear btw. If I looked like Henderson or Lindland I think I'd grow my hair long, think it looks terrible.

Go to the hopspital and get it drained now, you dont wanna have it for life. Once the cartilage has hardened thats it, you cant fix it.

Never. My grappling has been through jiujitsu - but I've never had a problem with my ears. Joint pain is a different story.
