Dennis Hogan vs. Kenny Abril, 10 rounds @ light middleweight

 

Round 1

Abril is sticking the right jab in, tickling at Hogan's throat with it. Hogan is checking his advance with the left jab and 1-2 down the center lane, matching Abril's pace moving laterally and facing up to him. Hogan is walking Abril down and using lots of right hand lead feints to position Abril on the ropes before actually launching the punch, sometimes overhand but more often straight. Hogan is reaching with high line drive left jabs, delivered from his pecs to Abril's hairline, chasing Abril over the Corona logo. Abril waiting to counter and manages to land a pull-back left as Hogan lunges in with a 1-2.

Round 2

Abril is hunching forward, in a low crouch, jabbing Hogan with his right and then slinging it around Hogan's neck to pull him into clinches. Hogan flops over him, a couple of late rabbit punches on the break. Abril is scoring well shoving Hogan off while pressed against him low on the inside, coming up with a left hook flush on the jaw.

Round 3

Abril is giving Hogan fits with his ducking and rolling, landing flush counters with the looping lead left and straights delivered upward from the crouch into Hogan's face. Hogan is slicing in with the right hand wide from outside, often getting parried off the hilt with Abril raising his wrists over his face, but occasionally clipping the left ear. Hogan unsuccessful with his jab, and unable to keep up with Abril's quick, erratic footwork.

Round 4

Hogan is reasserting himself, making the adjustment to Abril's slippery movement by just trotting sidelong to catch Abril in a reactive spin by charging straight in with double & triple jabs and hammering with the right hand. A flood of combinations by Hogan, everything pumped in straight down the middle. Abril is swiping at the body with right hooks but mostly covering up, a bit sloppy now when transitioning from offense to defense.

Round 5

Abril is luring Hogan from one set of ropes to another, catching straight leads on his left glove and outer edge of his arm while popping in right jabs & hooks as Hogan walks in. Long body shots by Hogan. Abril is ducking the left hook and grabbing Hogan around the waist. Hogan is busily jabbing with his left, missing a good deal but painting Abril's chin with a few. Abril doing very little, just spoiling, hugging, ducking and running. Solid 1-2 by Hogan.

More evenly matched than it seemed to be on paper.

 

Round 6

Abril is feeding the jab regularly and roaming to his left, working uppercuts on the body and left hook/right hand combinations up top as he turns Abril. Constant wading in by Abril, earmuffs on, no jab shown, absorbing shots on the body or blocking up top until close enough to hold.
