Undisputed welterweight champion and pound for pound boxing queen Cecilia Brækhus today announced a new management and representation consortium including IMG, a global leader in sports, fashion and media, and K2 Promotions and Klitschko Management Group (KMG), Wladimir Klitschko’s boxing promotional and management companies.

Cecilia Brækhus said: "I am proud and honored to be teaming up with Wladimir Klitchko's management and IMG. This partnership will take my career to even higher level. Together we will create even more historic boxing moments - both in Norway, for the first time in 33 years, and internationally. Working with the world best within boxing, sport and media was an opportunity I simply couldn't say no to."

Wladimir Klitschko added: "It is great that Cecilia and I are now partners. She has been, for many years now, the dominant figure in women's boxing. Cecilia is a great athlete, very dedicated to the sport and she even has one belt more than me - but I promise to her that I will work on that."

Bernd Bonte also said that Cecilia could land on one of Klitschko's undercards.

Good news for K2, bad news for Sauerland. It's surely a step up in Cecilia's career as she will be able to fight on Wlad's undercard, which is the main stage, especially compared to Sauerland's Nordic cards. Also, Norway removed the ban on boxing so she will even be able to headline there as well.

No info about the financial aspects of the deal but considering that she had a very expensive contact with Sauerland and now not only joined K2, but KMG as well, no doubt that this one is even bigger.

I am from Norway (but does not really care about Brækhus) and think this is great!

I hope this will help so pro boxing events can be held in Norway, scince tha ban is now history, and Cecilia have a lot of fans that would pay good money to se her in live action.

Sauerland was able to give her the biggest fights. What can K2 make better?
I think, this is a stupid move.

Yes, but what fights are there that are on the horizon right now? Maybe Christina Hammer (who is 2 weight classes above) and she is with SES boxing, not Sauerland.

I think that it's all about the exposure and money right now, since she can pretty much fight whoever she wants.

And signing with KMG surely guarantees big money and if she is headlining in Norway or fighting on Klitschko's undercards, that's way bigger than fighting on Nordic Fight Nights and Sauerland undercards.

    Why don't you like Brækhus?

I don't dislike her as a person, and but i really don't care to much her as an athlete, but I do respect her achievements.

The reason is that I think the competition in woman boxing is to small. Right now BoxRec has just 45 registered fighters in her weight class, and the level is not to high. In addition the media and her fans blow her achievements through the roof, and over the sky as well.

So to summarize: I don't like alle the media hype because of the few other competitors in woman boxing. That is the same reason I don't get the hype that cross country skiiers in Norway gets, the width and depth of the field is to shallow.

But a world champion is a world champion, you are at the top of the world regardless of the other competitors!

That's a fair point, the pool of available talented competition is shallow.

Even so, Brækhus has dominated to such an extent that you'd expect her to be elite no matter how stacked the women's ranks were. She's a joy to watch.

    That's true.

She is the most talented fighter in a talent pool that is about that |---| deep.

It gonna be interesting to see who the next opponent gonna be when her foot/ankle heals.

To som extent I can now relate to a world champion since I also walk on crutches! (But not because of sports, because alcohol and ice reults in broken fibula and torn ligaments, yeah)

IB, since you follow women's boxing, who would be the favorite in your opinion between Braekhus and Hammer?

Maybe that's a possible fight on some catchweight.

    Cece, easily.

I'd be far more interested seeing her in a catchweight battle with Persoon.

That would be the female Mayweather vs. Pacquiao right now, essentially.

I hope they put her on one of Golovkins undercards.
Any chance HBO may pick up one of her fights?

    Ugh.

First Mr. Chocolatito, who is becoming altogether too familiar with K2, now this.

It's not enough for the crime syndicate to have Mr. Klitschko and Mr. Triple G ruining fan's lives. They just had to add more hired guns.
