Jr is certainly stylistically much tougher than Lemieux for Billy Joe.... Say what you like about Jr but he has never lost to scrubs like Rubio and Alcine.... Lets just debate this when that fights signed, we can go back and forth all day but my opinion isn't changing until the fights over
Yes but bjs has little margin for error. CEJ was able to severely pressure degale ...a very slippery guy, a full size super middle. If Billys lifestyle catches up with him CEJ is the wrong guy for it to happen against. CEJ is much more active fast and athletic than chubby little lemieux. Things could get very uncomfortable for Billy in there!
Let’s spin it the other way, Lemieux absolutely smashes this version of Degale into next week, Degale does not hear the final bell. All the attributes that made Degale a Olympic gold medalist and world champ were gone. His balance was shocking, he was falling in from every shot. He mentioned how his Achilles had healed but he looked to have the same problem as Haye in his final fight were he was leaning forward. His punch resistance had gone, every shot was hurting him badly. He was going back in straight lines and Junior had a field day following him swinging for the trees. BJS would comprehensively outbox Junior.
Far more comprehensively this time also. Eubank still didnt show he can close distance effectively, he caught degale on the way out but wasnt able to work his way in which is why we always seen degale leading off and falling in. BJS just dances rings round Eubank, and would but a bigger beatdown. Eubanks best chance against him is BJS getting complacent and showboating and getting caught.
Did you even watch the fight Jr was in on Degale basically whenever he wanted? Jr was using the jab to get in too, he out jabbed the jabber!!! Jr was throwing the right hand straighter. Jr's definitely hitting harder than ever these days. Degale was healthier than he's been in years and Jr was hurting him every time he landed. Let's not forget Jr slaughtered Yilidirim and Dirrell who is a very big and strong super middle couldn't dent him. Also I personally think any version of Degale gives Lemme a beating. Lemme is too slow and flat footed. He has stumpy legs and wouldn't lay a glove on Degale.
Yes I did, and i watched it without Brighton Blnkers on. Degale hasnt been throwing that jab effectively for about 3 years !! I suspect since the achillies injury or the shoulder injury (cant remember which shoulder he done)? I dont see any evidence in the fight against Eubank that showed me that Degale was physically any where near what he used to be. Eubanks punches were being timed a little better and the technique has also improved his feet are still the same however. He isnt the smartest fighter either. Control the range and spin off Eubanks left hand side and you make fighting him much much easier. But arguing with you about Eubank is like arguing with his dad about him, your so biased that regardless of what I say you wont change your opinion. I had Eubank winning against Degale before the fight you can dig out what I wrote if you want. I said that after round 3/4 Eubank would completely take over the fight. It just happened a round earlier than I predicted cos he caught Degale. Anytime a fighter comes out and just re-iterates how much he is injury free is 9/10 a tell tale sign. If you were truly over the injuries you keep that to yourself, you dont want the opponent knowing just how sharp you are, you dont wanna jinx it also (yes this is defo a thing!!).
Fair points 20 . The only issue I have is that people might be overstating how shot de gale was and not giving cej credit for making James look so bad. Cej keeps the pressure on from bell to bell for all 12.
There is no need to retrospectively analyse just how shot to pieces Degale is. In January's boxing monthly, he goes into detail how the accumulation of injuries have impacted training and ability to perform. Deviated septum, 2 groin ops, Achilles tendinitis, shoulder Op. No roadwork in over 12 months. There's probably a few other niggles he's had. I've got nothing against Eubank, but he was fighting shell of a fighter. Theybwill need to carefully match him.
I think people would given him more credit if it wasn't for the fact that Caleb Truax and (to an extent) Porky Medina made a fresher Degale look almost equally bad by doing the exact same thing.
*should. He should outbox CEJ. Not to say he will. Eubank for all his flaws at least has a trainer now, and lives the life to the extreme. 168 also suits him better than BJS. Eubank isn't a KO artist but he will hurt you if he lands. I would lean towards BJS but the first fight was close and see this one being close as well
