For every time somebody says "all the great American heavyweights are linebackers instead"

There is a great video about Bas almost beating the **** out of Brian Urlacher.

Classic video. Unfortunately when people claim the best American heavyweights are linebackers nobody ever says Urlacher.

Pavlovian conditioning at it's finest. :hey

Bas is the man..Just hate on that guy..

I dont know a whole lot about NFL or American sportstars but **** i could imagine how funny it would of been once Urlacher realised how close to death he was..

Yea but that's not the point when people say "great heavyweights are now nfl linebackers". Clearly they are not trained to fight....so they would lose to a top mma guy or for that matter boxer (ask shannon briggs) the point is...the particular set of athletic abilities that are needed to be top linebackers would likely have allowed many of the players to be top level in combat sports such as boxing and mma.

I understand the premise, it would just be deeply satisfying.

But that statement is probably true.

Is Bas 1/3 of the athlete Urlacher is? Urlacher may not know how to wrap his body around another man, but that's because he plays a professional sport that pays him millions of dollars.

If he chose to go that route, do you honestly believe he wouldn't be dominant?

Especially in a sport like wrestling that is often predicated by pfp strength, something that Urlacher has an abundance of. He may not be able to make it in boxing, but he has a great chance in the UFC.

It's perfectly logical though for someone to assume that in both boxing and MMA, you would be able to find athletes in the NFL considering they are some of the best athletes in the world.

Why would you think otherwise? Do you honestly think a mediocre athlete with some MMA training would stand a chance against a great athlete with MMA training?

Bas wouldn't be grappling, he would straight knock his teeth down his throat.

Given the record of NFL players switching to MMA, it doesn't look very good for them.

If they had started their life in combat sports, then yea a good athlete is a good athlete; although different sports require different athletic traits, and the NFL focuses on some very specific traits.

it would take him a good two years to even have a chance to be able to compete with a top 20 mma fighter...and i said compete..not beat....

This guy is a real athlete. He's not some steriod infused muscle head like what appears to be the majority of UFC fighters.

It might take two years, but in 4 he would be dominating top level competition.

And in regard to Bas knocking his teeth in, Urlacher is a much faster athlete than Bas and it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume that he probably has fast twich muscles throughout his entire body, so if he learned some stand up techniques, I sure he could excell...but that's harder to quantify than if he has the tools to become a very effective wrestler, which he clearly does.

He is incredibly strong, quick, and used to taking serious punishment out on the football field.
