    Caballero's still looking for a mega-fight

    By John Evans
    Imagine the situations vacant section of “Boxing Promotions Monthly”. Even in the current economic climate certain positions will be easily filled.

    “Journeyman middleweight required for tough assignment. Repeat work likely”

    will still attract floods of enquires, as will;

    “Formerly ambitious heavyweight wanted for overseas contract. Stamina desirable but not essential”

    However, some people haven’t been able to find work so easily. Even those with the most impressive CV’s are struggling to find themselves the role their talents deserve and have resorted to pushing their names forward at every opportunity without success.

    “Pound for pound ranked fighter and former long time super bantamweight champion requires challenging assignment. Incredibly talented. No job too big or difficult.”

    Two years ago, Celestino Caballero probably spent the week following his destruction of Steve Molitor lying on a beach daydreaming about his move up to featherweight and the upcoming fights (and paydays) that could secure his legacy. “I can beat De Leon in a rematch. Gamboa will be an exciting fight. Maybe there will be a massive fight with‘Juanma’. Marquez is a tough, proud Mexican. I could step up and fight Chris John…..” With that, he probably switched off his phone and decided to relax and sift through the various offers on his return to the gym. The phone still hasn’t rung and the only new title he has gained since what should have been his breakthrough victory is one he wouldn’t want. The Most Avoided Fighter On The Planet.

    Caballero really is an excellent fighter. I'd favour him over Gamboa, but I think Lopez would beat him.

    He's fighting that glass jawed joke Litzau. That should get him an impressive KO victory.
