The drug laws are out of control, so basically he got 5 years for nothing.

Would you feel the same way if you had a son or daughter overdose and die from the coke he was trafficking?

Possession of nearly 11 kilos of coke is "nothing?"

Yes, why wouldn't i? We already have a ton of drugs which are legal - big pharma, tobacco, alcohol etc
'Those' drugs are legal but 'these' ones are not!
War on 'some' drugs is utter bull****, benefits noone but cartels, law enforcement and judicial and prison systems.

Guess what, I'm against big pharma too, they could use some large scale regulations. Tobacco causes long term ill effects, not temporary complete and total mental impairment that could lead to someone sideswiping a school bus full of children and killing them all like coke, heroin, PCP, LSD etc do. Alcohol isn't something that will get you high with the first glass, you can have one or two, and function in a quasi normal state, and yet again, that's another long term kill yourself slowly drug. Most people can drink in moderation, most can't be heroin and cocaine addicts in moderation.

I'm not a moral relativist when it comes to severe life altering substances that effect either yourself, your family or random bystanders, some are far worse than the other.

And why wouldn't you? Come on... are you really that cold hearted? Put yourself in that headspace, do you fancy losing the person most dear to you? Do you think you wouldn't be mad at the person who fed their out of control addiction and contributed to their death?

Yes I would be mad, for sure, but that's a different question. I was simply commenting on possession charge. I don't do drugs nor do I advocate doing them. They ruin lives, for sure and some are more dangerous than others.

I'm just sick of these 'possession' laws here and there. If you've hurt no one then you shouldn't be in prison. Possessing something should not be a crime.

I agree when its a little weed or coke for personal use, this wasn't for personal use. He was a mule.

I think I was wrong about Murder only having a three year punishment in Mexico. That was based on an episode of Vice I saw that went down to a Mexican prison and interviewed some Mexican-Americans who chose to do their time south of the border so they could get out quicker. Mexico does charge a lot lighter for murder than the US though. It looks like there is no capital punishment there and the maximum sentence for murder is 24 years. That's almost as light as those European countries where the max you can hit someone with is 12 years.

Alcohol 10X and then some the issue cocaine is, in America at least. I hate and blame alcohol and pharmaceutical lobbyists more than anybody who gets busted with cocainium, I'll say that. They are responsible for more deaths, after all...

It's fallacious thinking to think that a "war on drugs." can't work because it's been so poorly executed in the US(probably deliberately) It's an execution thing. If you're pushing large amounts of hard drugs that turn people into zombies you deserve a lengthy prison sentence - possession of small amounts for use should warrant a mandatory sentence in a treatment center as opposed to prison time. That's how I'd like to see things in a perfect world anyways.

Yeah that probably has something to do with the fact that between 56-70% of Americans drink alcohol on a regular basis, which is like 180-225,000,000 people as opposed to the 900,000 or so that use cocaine on a regular basis, I'd hate to see what the US would look like If 180-225,000,000 people were cokeheads.
