I'll take Cervates. I think he had the tools and toughness in his prime to outbox Chavez to a UD.

:lol: No ****ing way!!! Id bet the ranch on Chavez. Chavez TKO 12 in a competetive fight but Chavez shines here.

Cervantes was excellent, and Chavez at 140 was not the fighter he once was at 130 and 135.

But I still think 89/90 Chavez would find a way to win.

Chavez best weight was 135 but he didnt stay there too long. Seems like many on this forum underrated Chavez at 140, the best of his resume was done here. I think Chavez was a more complete fighter at JW than JL.

Mid Seventies Cervantes was a badass. Watch his fights with Dejesus and Hector Thompson. Underrated fighter. Just want to give him some props, but I think Chavez could get inside that jab and do some good body work. I'll take Chavez by razor close decision.

Food for thought. Cervantes could fight.

I think Chavez was pretty much peaked at 130.

No shock in a Cervantes win, but I'd bet on Chavez.

Cervantes in a good fight over 15. Chavez' whole game plan would hinge on getting inside. Good luck! That's a helluva gauntlet to run to get to Cervantes ribs. I believe Carlos Gimenez tried that style twice on Cervantes. Again, Cervantes over 15 in a good fight.

No i disagree he had a tougher time with Lockridge,Laporte than he would have at 135. He was at his peak when he beat Rosario,Ramirez at 135. He was even more polished at 140 than 130.

Are you seriously trying to gage how Chavez would do, by what Gimenez failed to do?

I would agree he peaked at 135, but the first signs of dip in form began with the Mayweather rematch (his first title at 140), and he never did quite find his peak form again.

I dont know he still looked pretty damn good against Camacho which was like 4 years after Mayweather. Also beat Meldrick Taylor after Mayweather. I think he went downhill after beating Greg Haugen in 93.
