Such a culture shock to see these commercials with young Thais going out to all these restaurants with tantalizing-looking dishes being prepared, noodles with spicy peanut sauces and lobster and everything, slow motion shots of the chef flipping everything in the saute pan, and then you find out that what these kids really lose their minds over is the fact that when the meal is served (yeah, ho-hum) they get to wash it down with a Coke.

You have some of the most delicious cuisine on the planet, and you're chasing it with our mundane and mass-produced (guzzled by the damn near gallon by every moviegoer in the country, or in similar proportions as Big Gulps in every convenience store) corn syrupy bubbly caramel juice garbage?

Don't get me wrong, I like Coke (fuck Pepsi), but...

Then again this is the same nation that effectively served as the focus group for Red Bull and decided "yes this is good tasting stuff and people around the world should consume it" so maybe their palates - at least when it comes to liquids - are not that discriminating.

 

^ Like, here, in commercials, you see people washing down McDonald's with a Coke. That makes sense. Or even nicer burger places, like Red Robin.

You don't see Michelin rated steakhouses advertising their $100-a-plate porterhouse as "going great with a soda!"
