Just found it on youtube! Hadn't seen it yet, but it's as good as advertised........I had Bobby up 7 rounds to 6 at the conclusion of hostilities.

Its amazing to think Chacon still had plenty of heroic efforts after this fight.

Remembering their second fight now, I really do buy the idea that Boza's legs had felt too much strain in making 130. He seemed so sturdy here, but shook or fell quite often in their rematch, even early.

Ditto. I don't have to see it again to vividly remember that wild ninth round jig Bobby made Corny dance with his big right hand. Schoolboy proved in this classic that he definitely had the power necessary to hurt Boza Edwards, but didn't have the gas to follow up as necessary to close the show. Ultimately, Corny looked too big and strong for Bobby to ever prevail against.

Now, everybody can see why the boxing publications were writing Chacon's boxing obituary after this one. What we didn't know was that a reversal of lax training habits would give him the championship round stamina for the first time in his career that brought him all the way back to the top.

Sal, very much appreciated! I've been clamoring for years that younger fans need to see this one to fully appreciate just what Bobby accomplished in dethroning Limon and taking the Boza Edwards rematch. (I see that it was only uploaded on September 2nd, and round nine (in part 3/4) has fewer than a dozen views as I post this.) For further context in understanding Chacon-Limon IV and Chacon-Boza Edwards II, Arguello-Chacon might also be suggested as required viewing. Two defeats which when coupled together really made it seem assured Schoolboy was done.

Speak of the devil. I just found out Boza is cleaning up at Roger and Floyd Mayweather's gym, on 24/7, this morning. :?

    :good

I think you're right about the strength differential, and it was still there for the rematch, as Bobby spent most of the fight glued to the ropes, counterpunching in spurts. The thing that turned that fight for him I think was the sudden fact that Boza could no longer take his big shots without faltering.

Boza seems like to nice a guy to be mixed up with those lunatics.

Chacon tried to match him in the center of the ring, but Boza out-countered him there. In the rematch, Chacon succeeded in luring him into the ropes, and it was a whole different fight (and a better one too).

 Well, he seems to be doing well enough, given the context.

Talking about Chacon and what he showed after the Boza fight, what about Limon and what he showed after the Boza fight. Up until the camacho fight that is.

Tremendous fight that had the misfortune of preceding the two epic fights Chacon had with Limon and the rematch with Edwards.

Chacon did alot of good body work early on but Edwards was well conditioned and it didn't deter him down the stetch of the fight. He recovered quickly after being hurt in the ninth round, too.

I had the same score at the time of the stoppage as you.The two judges, according to boxrec, only had Chacon winning two and three rounds respectively.:patsch

That seems...........unrealistic. At best. It's odd too, that in the rematch, Boza's corner didn't seem to dispute the decision at all. And here we are to this day with probably half the people thinking he won it. It wasn't like Mickey Duff to stay silent about much.
