Chad Dawson and Andre Dirrell - physically, athletically, tangibly

He doesnt know about boxing. He probably thinks its some warehouse job where you put things in a box.

 

Dawson and Dirrell didn't strike me as being as physically gifted as Roy Jones Jr. Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr did. I'm not sure anybody has had the whole package like that since. The guys who I thought exhibited unusual physical gifts, other than the obvious legends, were guys like Zab Judah and Adrien Broner. Of course, they weren't mentally strong and fell apart after a while. David Lemieux and Joe Smith both have great power and not much else. Beterbiev, Kovalev, and Golovkin all had stupid power. Of course, Wilder comes to mind. Rungvisai. Inoue.

 

What's amazing about Andre Direll? his acting? Nothing amazed me other than his Abraham performance when he started flopping around on the floor like a demented seal pup being clubbed to death

 

I'm all set pal, I value my life way too much than to go talk tough in Milan. I'd get more respect for calling a kid a "fart face" at a jungle gym than verbally running at you tools over there.

 

I would bet anything they were just as incredible physically if not more so than the others. The others also had unreal technique, fundamentals, and other things that accentuated what they had. Dawson and Dirrell entered every fight as 100 meter dash champions and usually won.

 

What's so overlooked about early and prime Kovalev is how highly skilled, well and fine tune trained, and fundamentally and technically proficient/almost perfection he was. Under the right circumstances with his head screwed on tight, motivated, not drinking Ireland under the table on a nightly basis, humble enough to listen to his trainer and recognize his weakness, was in top shape, and burned inside with fire and fury to systematically destroy his opponent - THAT Kovalev - was a frightening fighter who could easily leave his opponent in the morgue. He was a machine,

But all those things that made him so great, ie the Russian feeder amateur system, are ultimately what destroyed him and turned him into w walking KO victim later in his career.

 

Ya, what's so amazing about world-class boxers blah blah blah? Did you read the entire premise of the thread? I never said he was an amazing boxer, actually i mentioned multiple times he was far from it. What I did say was amazing about him were his natural, athletic, and physical gifts which were as elite as any fighter was born with in the last 40 years.

So tell me again, smart person you, what does his Abraham performance have remotely anything to do with the premise of the thread and resulting discussion?

"Most amazing specimens of the last 40 years" is an overstatement. Floyd, Pacquiao, and Lomachenko are more athletic, and that's just off the top of my head.

 

Both guys were tall, good reach, very quick. Dirrell is far more athletic than Dawson. Neither guy was physically strong, and they both could be bullied around the ring. Flashy, but hardly the perfect build for boxing.

 

Both were very athletic with a ton of talent. But boxing is MUCH more than just talent and skill.

BTW, did Andre D retire?

 

Yeah @pistal47 lost his marbles a long time ago. That guy wishes he was a black, only supports black american fighters. Suffers from probably every mental health problem going and has probably taken every drug possible. He's lost the plot big time. His tough guy act is cringeworthy , the bum can't fight past the early rounds of his ****ing local boxing tournament.
