Chad Dawson doesn't want to be called "Bad" anymore

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Golden Boy 360, Apr 11, 2013.

  1. I suspect that Mayweather's favorite comeback would be the same one he used over and over against Brian Kenny. "You don't know **** about boxing."

Pro boxing is about theatrics and hype, people follow characters. It comes with the territory. It's a shame that it isn't viewed as a legit sport with fighters treated as professional athletes but it's just the way it is. Most boxing fans aren't boxing fans, they want to see trash talk and drama between their favourite and their hated characters. I think it's a bit rich of you to talk about these things when you've been slandering Dawson constantly. When you have an experienced trainer with a lot of boxing knowledge and stories like yourself it's a shame that you lower yourself to the level that you're complaining about now. You could've just said something like "Chad is entitled to his opinion, my experience and record speaks for itself. Chad had some difficulty making weight and there were some communication problems, unfortunately our professional relationship didn't work out and I wish him all the best in the future". That would do far more for your professional reputation than talking trash about Chad. Everyone can see that Chad isn't the brightest/most trustworthy and is always swapping trainers/deflecting responsibility so it was completely unnecessary for you to try and justify yourself. To me you're just projecting now, to me you seemed HATEFUL and EAGER to insult Dawson publicly.

By the same token, Dealt, NO, I am not slandering him by any means...I am not some guy on an internet board saying "Sad Chad sucks, blah blah etc etc"...you have NEVER heard me say anything like that. Chad came out with some nonsense about ME first, while he was also adamant at first about not using the weight as an excuse after the Ward fight when the fact is it was a HUGE factor in the fight. Now, my problem with it all was that I called it five weeks before the fight but no one listened. Then after the fight he won't use it so, basically, if it isnt the weight then it is the training, right? I mean, if I am not rehired then that points to me. Yet the guy who actually "trained" him for the fight is still on the team? That points to a problem on my end and as this is MY BUSINESS, well, NO I can't let that slide. The S&C coach also said after the fight that the weight was a NON-ISSUE. Now I certainly felt it was within my rights to defend myself, no? What would YOU do? Personally? I wish more fighters and trainers would come on these boards among the fans and interact with you like I do...let the real boxing fans get it all from the source. I open myself up to criticism this way, sure, I get that, but sharp people who know me and what I am about know whats up with this. I am NOT trashing Chad I am literally just clearing my name when the discussion comes up (You do realize I did not start this thread here)...It's frustrating for people in the industry to read these message board comments from people who think they know because they read or watched a youtube video but the reality comes from someone who was right here, in the flesh, live for the whole episode. I like to discuss boxing anyway, this is OK with me but also I AM NOT going to let myself get slandered and have it just roll off me, no. Not happening.

Again, I am not talking trash...I am REPLYING to his words on other sites. And I am not one to put up some kind of form letters "We regret that our relationship didn't work and we wish each other the best of luck in future endeavors" ...not after what I had to endure over the course of that last training camp. BELIEVE ME, you dont know the half of it because I havent told everything and I won't either because there is a lot of inside and personal stuff involved...but it is to say that knowing what I know and dealt with I AM JUSTIFIED in clarifying things on my own behalf, you'd better believe that.

I think it's only fair to point out that I invited John to comment on that thread d_w,and it wasn't as if he was trawling boards looking to badmouth Chad.
If more people interacted with fans there would be a lot less rumour and supposition and more transparency on controversial matters.
And it's also a bit unfair to expect people to have their reputations attacked and not respond just because Chad is considered to lack a bit of moral fortitude.
Floyd Snr's comments after being fired were far more personal. All we're getting here is one person's side of the story.
I'd like nothing more than for Chad to give his, or better still for it not to have happened this way in the first place.

What exactly did Chad say apart from the video where he said that he is too far developed to be working with Scully at this point? I wouldn't exactly call that slander.

Ahh, but, look at it from MY point of view...I'm training this guy, helped him beat Bernard Hopkins...helped him through MANY ROUGH SPOTS in each camp, helped develop him into what he is today...have him frequently telling me and other people that I am "the best trainer for him"...a "great trainer"...a text message from him after he got dropped by Edison and I helped him through the aftermath, he texts me to say "Thanks! That's why I needed you back on my team, that's why you are a great trainer. Ill see you tomorrow in the gym!" But then when he loses he says I couldn't handle him. TRUST ME, HE...COULDNT...HANDLE...ME....and, listen, him training with Eddie again is cool, I like Eddie a lot on a personal level...but if Chad is actually going to try and sit there and tell me the things he did about Eddie and why he stopped training with him in the first place to go with Emanuel BUT then now he is going to act like he loves Eddie and Eddie is the best thing for him, etc etc??...NO, because I am about sick of the craziness LOL ...This kid literally just says things as they come to him, not taking into account what he said 5 minutes earlier. He says whatever he can to make himself look good and blameless but the fact is that he has spent his ENTIRE (remember, I've known him since he was 11) life shifting blame, not holding himself accountable for ANYTHING... I'm not here to change him as a person, it's too late for that, but he is NOT going to slander me or put images and ideas about me in people's heads without getting called on it, NOT TODAY...normally I wouldn't care but, guess what? This is a BUSINESS, training fighters is my job, my livelihood and there is no way no how I am going to sit there and let this guy try and tell anyone on this earth that he was "too far advanced for me" LOL, that's ridiculous and laughable...if the situation wasn't good for anyone, if someone wasn't ready for what needed to be done it was HIM...

That's all good but the truth isn't hard to see, nobody takes what Dawson says seriously anyway so I don't see why you felt a need to defend yourself. We all know people like Chad who change their story every 5 minutes (usually pot heads I've found in my experience), we all know that Chad changes trainers like his underwear, I think you should've just been above it. A relationship between a coach and an athlete can deteriorate for a million reasons.

Professionalism and results are what people are after, who said what doesn't matter. From my point of view I would be less likely to seek your services if I thought that in the unfortunate event that it doesn't work out between us, that you might put our business out there. Even if I make a snarky comment that is completely inaccurate in the media you're still meant to be a professional, and there's no reason to stoop to someone else's level. You can just say that it's untrue and keep it moving, getting into the nitty gritty of all the behind the scenes stuff is nobodies business and makes you look like you're unsure of yourself. Save the dirt for a book in the future.

All the best, I'm just saying maybe rethink how you handle a similar conflict in the future, because this Dawson stuff hasn't covered you with glory imo. My image of you is (or was) knowledgable boxing guy with stories he shares with the fans who really appreciate it. This Dawson slander isn't cool. Everything you've said about Dawson isn't surprising, and it's what I'd expect to be going on with him. As I said, we all know what Dawson is like. You helped him beat Hopkins which is his best win. Dawson wouldn't ever beat Ward, even without the weight issues. It just seems so obvious to me, you talking about Dawson is only harmful to you, you just give what he says more credibility. He says something that is completely untrue then treat it for what it is, a joke.
