^This. Dawson fights whomever HBO tells him to. End of story. It's not like he has an appreciable fan base or earns anything outside of the TV money. This entire meme about him ducking good fighters and chasing old men is ridiculous. ****, most of the people who've been attacking him for fighting Johnson a second time were here saying that he was ducking a rematch the day before the fight was signed.

I really don't understand the Dawson hate on this forum.

Dawson is young and will go on to do great things but some of the forum defence reasons make me laugh. After zillion threads telling us how Calzaghe should have manned up and gone to other countrys to fight and even moved up in weight we now see ppl here say cant fight xxx cus he is weight class above him , was right to avoid xxx because he would have had to go to romania ect ect. In the end of the day it seems to me most boxers act the same, they do whats needed to become champion then stay champion. Its the forum fans that seem to demand more of people they dont like and accept the same things from the people they do like.

Well what do you think Dawson should have done?

Option 1 - Go to Romania, fight Diaconu with no major TV coverage and likely win, or be winning....only to get robbed by the corrupt refs/judges/boxing commision in Romania and lose the WBC title anyway and not make hardly any money.

Option 2 - Dump the WBC belt, fight a better name that could draw him some money at the time, have a direct shot at another world title that replaces the WBC belt he held.

Personally, I would've rather have seen Dawson's team put up a better offer on the purse bid instead of letting Interbox win it, then he could've faced Diaconu at home or somewhere neutral and just dealt with the title defense like a champion should, and then move on to the other fights. Every champion has a mandatory that they don't really want to face, but they should do it as their responsibility. Someone gave them a chance, they need to allow others to get that same chance to beat them and win a title legitimately in the ring instead of all this vacant and interim belt fights.

At the end of the day, its all a business....with or without forum fans. But are we not right to demand more? We're the ones footing the bill after all.

I have a lot of respect for both Erdei and especially Diaconu. However, Dawson is not afraid of either of those two and would probably box circles around both of them. Chad is a phenomenal fighter!

I think he would have won pretty easy aswell and think the pascal fight will be interesting. My point was its not the actual fighters that are the problems because as said before this is a buisiness and anyone that steps into that arean cannot be really classed as a coward. The problem is fans perceptions and hypocrisy.

the question is could those fights generate any revenue and would HBO buy them? I doubt it.

I am not so sure about his Chin yet but I would not call it 'Glass' just yet but Mayweather Sr. said one of the reasons he quit working with Dawson was because he had a Glass Jaw. :think

Look i know fight fans just wanna see certain fights and don't wanna talk about the business too much, but sometimes you just can't get around it. Do people really believe that a guy fighting at the level of a Chad Dawson can just say "i wanna fight so and so" and then go ahead and fight him? Networks have to approve of the match-up or they just won't buy it and there's no real money to be made. Promoters have to be financially satisfied. So do managers. In fact, the whole team around a fighter gets a percentage of his purse, so a lot of people have to sign off on the amount of money that's in a certain fight.

And besides, what about the guys that Dawson HAS been facing? Johnson, Tarver, Adamek and now Pascal are less worthy than Zsolt Erdei and freaking Adrian Diaconu? **** off, what a joke thread.

Pascal will be Dawson's fifth consecutive top-five opponent in his own weight class. How many other fighters in the sport can say the same?

He agreed to Diaconu before Diaconu pulled out. And the fight in Romania was going to be off American TV. He ended up getting Tarver (what he and Showtime wanted all along) instead, which he parlayed into a deal with HBO. Good move.

He agreed to fight Cloud provided Cloud and Dawson both won on an HBO card (Dawson/Johnson II), but Cloud's people turned down the deal.

So, of the major players in the LHW division (in no order):

    1) Tarver -- defeated twice
    2) Johnson -- defeated twice
    3) Pascal -- fighting in August
    4) Diaconu -- agreed to fight before AD pulled out, and now fighting the guy who beat AD twice
    5) Cloud -- agreed to fight Cloud, but TC's people rejected the offer
    6) Calzaghe -- chose to retire (understandably)
    7) Hopkins -- has tried to bait BH into a fight, but no luck

    Erdei is a non-factor.

7.) Calzaghe was 37 he had a right to retire, but lets get it right, Dawson wasnt a big name and looked like he could be stopped by G Johnson whos lost how many times? But if Dawson wanted to fight Calzaghe why didnt Dawson build a SMW? No instead he fought in the weaker LHW division. Now Calzaghes retired Dawson is talking of moving down to SMW. Odd that.

As for Erdei - Its up for debate as to whos best between Erdei and Dawson as Erdei is also undefeated, defended his belt 11 times, before vacating and winning the WBC CW Title and has some fair names on his resume, which could make an overall arguement
