Chad Dawson is strictly a points fighter, who has the ideal style that wins rounds in the eyes of judges. He throws a lot of punches (sometimes), throws flashy combinations, and his handspeed is impressive and eye-catching. But I really question his finishing ability at the elite level. Three different times tonight I thought he had Tarver buzzed and he refused to go in there for the kill. He is satisfied with getting the decision. He also gave some rounds away to Tarver when he felt he was ahead, got lazy and just didn't throw many punches. You shouldn't let 40 year Tarver outwork you.. ever... Great fighter Dawson is, but he's not doing himself any favors when he fights like this. How is he ever gonna get any big fights and become a star?
I think he has bad condition, he just gives rounds away for no apparent reason by not throwing any punches until the last 30 seconds.
Yeah, maybe questionable stamina too. And still a questionable chin. Tarver had his knees bucklin a couple of times..
What a sad fight. HBO tried SOOOO hard to 'sell' Chad, but he just doesn't have 'it,' and part of the problem is the no killer instinct.
Dawson is all over the place. He burns ridiculous amounts of reserves loading up on combinations he's not even trying to land. He's not as bad as Berto in this department, but they're in the same family.
Oh the irony. You are criticising Dawson for the same **** the guy in your avatar does. thats rich bro:rofl
He is better than Dawson but headhunter Hey whatever it takes right. I just think Dawson has what it takes to be an elite fighter, very good but not elite.
Seemed like Kellerman and Steward gave up selling Dawson by Round 4. He LOOKS like a good boxer in spurts, but that "it" factor isn't there.
That's how he fights, secures rounds and takes risks from time to time. He took a big risk in this fight and was hurt good by Tarver. He tries to take risks but when it's not worth it then he's better off outpointing and securing a victory.
