What a great read ,I have no doubt in my mind that you did everything you could to prepare him for Ward .:good

This just goes to show the world how crucial discipline and mental toughness are essential no matter the talent available . What a shame too had Chad been firing on all cylinders the Ward fight would have been a classic as opposed to a lopsided beat down.

The sad thing is,I don't think Chad will have as much of a test next time and if he comes back with a softer fight, he can spout all his bull**** about benefitting from being away from John.
You only need to look at Chad's poor workrate during rounds he could dominate to know that no trainer will convince Chad to get the most from himself.
At the end of the day, people will look at Chad's resume and look to see if he beat any ATGs.
Who was in the corner when he did?
And it's a shame, because he has a jab and ability that should be the real reason he's remembered.

    So true !!

Chad Dawson wants to be the man but does not want the responsibility that comes with it .. As long as things are going his way then he's with it but when things don't, he does not want to own up too his mistakes.

Like Im pretty sure scully didn't advise Dawson, who is a huge Lt heavy weight, to try and make 168 which was stupid move on Dawson's part.

I remember an interview with John Scully when he said, he and Dawson where in the same hotel room yet Dawson would send someone else in his crew to talk to scully who was just in the other room.. To me that show lack of respect to your trainer and everyone around you because, he thinks he's all that, which he's not.

    Interesting read!

These threads loaded with insider info are great. Not only does it deepen ones understanding of the fight game but if applied correctly can lead to valuable tools for self improvement.

John, remember when Lalonde moved down in weight for Leonard. He was tired just from fatigue about round 6. Although that was Ray's plan and to get 2 titles in one night.

    Thanks Jeff (and Kevin below)

John is perhaps the most accessible and fan friendly front line guy out there, and deep down I hoped he'd grace the thread with his presence.
And I know John will appreciate the kind words and sentiments here, although dealt_with was unusually disagreeable here.:blood
    Not like him at all:naughty

I have a difficult time thinking of Chad Dawson as anything more than a weak-willed, perpetually dispirited fool who doesn't give a **** about boxing or anyone involved with it. This thread is only another batch of anecdotes to reinforce the view I've long held.

I wasn't disagreeable, I just pointed out some inaccuracies in John's thinking in regards to making weight. I appreciate John taking the time to talk to us and I believe I was respectful but I'm not going to treat him as being above anyone or ignore misinformation. I agree with most of what John says and I can emphasise with him being stuck in a difficult situation with a difficult fighter and with whatever Dawson's strength coach is. Also I'm sure Dawson would have a different perspective of the events that went on, John wants to defend his name and reputation but I'm not ever going to take either side of the story as gospel (Even though I'm more inclined to believe John's view of things, taking into account Dawson's track record with trainers, his obvious focus and social problems).

FFS,d_w,I'd hope by now you realise that I'm not one of the ones who comes on with the sole purpose of insulting you or questioning your integrity because you offer contradictory and/ or controversial opinions.
That post was meant jokingly and given the stuff that's went on recently in other threads I'd understand if you were a bit defensive but there was nothing in that post and I try to avoid emoticons when I'm making serious points.
I'll be more careful with my wording from now on,and given the way your first post to Ice looked on first reading, you might give the same thing a go yourself.

I have always maintained that Chad Dawson was a head case.

With how weird some of his behaviours are, I can't help but think he was ****ed up by sexual abuse at a young age or some other significant trauma.
