We've spoke at length about my feelings on how you handled the corner that night John.It might not have been enough but I'll always remember it positively and as you've said, nothing was going to help Chad given the distress he was suffering.
I thought it was an admirable effort and a good example of why the MMQB's are giving opinions on forums and you're a world level trainer.
As you said, there was money and exposure to be had,but you can't buy integrity, and only one person is emerging from this episode with any.

I'm sure Chad is probably a good family man as that's the only personal matter he ever seems to talk about. It bothers me, though, when someone thinks it's okay to generally be **** to other people just because he considers himself a good family man.

Ruining your career is hardly a good way to take care of your family, and all Chad's professional life since his days as a prospect on ESPN he's been trying to sabotage his career with his "just enough to get the W" attitude in, and apparently outside, of the ring, coasting on natural talent. I hope he's been a responsible saver, for his kids' sake.

More to do with mindset... he has the skills but needs not to get disheartened when the going gets tough. He has good names and wins in his resume. No shame in being outclassed by Andre. I think them 2 will meet again when Andre moves up.

His S&C coach said he made weight perfectly. He should be fighting in May I think against Pascal. Pascal's last fight was interesting... one handed warrior lol.

Scully, I don't know if this has been asked in this thread, but what was the gameplan against Ward? To force him to lead and catch him in his bull rushes?

You know you're more than welcome John.

I wouldn't think for a second you'd break a confidence mate, but have you had any support from any (anonymous) well known figures since this happened?

I can't help but think you and EMM are gonna have a laugh over a glass a few years down the line with Eddie saying "what was I thinking?"

Maybe Chad doesn't feel the support/love from the fans? I think he's had so many trainers that he's confused. Someone needs to de-clutter that brain and build a strong bond. Chad was saying in the leadup to the fight that him and Scully have a really good bond... and that he nows my mistakes as he was a former sparring partner. But afterwards he said Scully is used to training a certain caliber of fighters and I've superceeded that 'status'. I think he needs alot encouraging words kinda like how Cus used to train Tyson.

I have felt a certain guilt at times over the way I felt about Chad before he got back with Ice and how it returned when he pulled this stunt because I do think he's a sad and mixed up person and I think he has real trust issues, but the comments you've mentioned Prince absolutely disgusted me when I read them.

Time will tell but leaving Ice and his subsequent behaviour will stand alongside choosing to go to 168 as his biggest blunder.
I've been convinced long before the Ward fight that John Scully will be a genuine top trainer in years to come, and my whole point here is that Chad has made the sort of mistake that ruins a career here.

I cant say of course but you would be AMAZED at one particular person in the game who called me on my cell phone to say that he was behind me 100 pct. on the matter...Shocked me, to tell u he truth. I have DEFINITELY had people in the game tell me on the side that the see all of this from him for what it really is. Its more than boxing...I like Chad and its more than boxing...he needs ot get himself STRAIGHTENED out because the way he handles things is wrong, no two ways about it. He just wishes people he doesnt want to deal with anymore would just disappear off the face of the earth rather than deal with them face to face the proper way. That needs to be fixed as much as anything.

Snr calling Chad '******ed' isn't very nice at all. Making fun of others in that way is very bad. Does Chad have a good realtionship with his parents?

One has to wonder what triggered this type of behaviour? Was he always like this? Even when coming up the ranks? I wonder how Chad would react if a fan(s) tried to explain the concerns we have for him? Then again maybe he's a totally different person when you see him during camp and a different person when he's with his family?

I think he's a very troubled guy and I've gone into more detail about my feelings when this just happened, but I did think that Chad's performance against Bernard would finally give you the kind of exposure needed to get you to the next level, and I feel kinda..."cheated" for you.
But it's clear you needed out, and the only negative in the long run will be the way he handled it,and I'm sure everyone who "matters" has seen it for what it is.
Going back to the corner that night, any half decent self defence method will advocate keeping it simple with gross motor movements when overwhelmed by adrenaline,so your decision to keep it simple makes perfect sense given you knew what it took the rest of us 3 rounds to figure out.

I agree it's a very inappropriate use of the word, but I do find big Floyd's comment,"My boy ain't got no ******ation in him" funny, but only because it's a contradiction in terms when you look at the grammar.
