... "Chad didnt struggle to make 168 pounds..." (He didnt??????? So sitting in a sauna the night before the weigh-in for 25 minutes, running on a treadmill for 50 minutes and not eating ANYTHING ...after training in the intense heat for nine weeks....isn't struggling???? I must have went to a different boxing class than this man did. He made a mistake saying I didnt know what I was talking about about then coming out with this interview. Its very self explanatory. Let's go to any court and bring this video with us. I'll win a 12-0 jury decision, NO DOUBT.

From my experience, Ill say this...A strength and conditinioning coach can be VERY HELPFUL...or VERY hurtful, depending on his knowledge of BOXING, of the fighter, of fighters in general...and maybe most importantly, his ability to realize that BOXING training trumps his training 100 percent...

Dawson is a waste of talent...well that's harsh...but he fails to live up to his potential. He's getting by on talent and athletic ability. He is weak, mentally from what I can tell. He fails and looks to make a change in his corner because he can't accept any responsibility for his losses.

John, do you remember saying this:

"Chad has an excellent strength coach in Axel Murillo and for the time being I think he is very comfortable at 175. I think he could get down to 168 again without a tremendous amount of difficulty provided he went about it the right way but, without looking too far ahead, I think the top 168-pounders moving up to face him would be a more logical scenario."

Also I can't find credentials for Murillo anywhere, all I can find is that he worked with Mackie Shilstone as if that means something. Do you know his qualifications, what professional bodies he is associated with, where he got his degree from (if he has one)? The problem isn't strength and conditioning coaches, it's people like this guy and Victor Conte playing the role of a strength coach/nutritionist when they don't know ****.

Skill, technique and tactics needs to take priority in every sport. The physical conditioning and everything else is just there to support that.

Yes...I said that based on two things...1 was that I went off of what he told me, before I realized that he was very wrong...and, two, what else could I say? Its all a game...the last sentence at least gives u a little insight into what I was ACTUALLY meaning...

Good conditioning allows you to fully execute that technique and, equally important, maintain that technique as you get tired.

I'm a tall, lanky guy like Chad. I needed to be able to hit a guy hard enough to back him off and establish my space. Without a little extra strength, and the endurance to do it repeatedly, I was done.

The two go hand in hand, IMO.

I get that. The way I trained for a Kenpo tournament and the way I'm training for my upcoming 100k bike ride are completely different. I'll weigh about the same, but I use two different plans.

At what point did John say that d_w? Genuine question.

I think Mackie has good credentials in this game. That would at least give me a starting point.
I also think it's been established that John's hands were tied very early on.
As they say in my hometown,he knew his "tea was out"
I'm not trying to contradict as I know this is an area where you have some experience, but it seems there was a touch of deckchairs on the Titanic early on.

I often wonder if his reluctance to throw scoring instead of hurting punches is down to a fear of being hit or just plain laziness.

And I have to laugh at suggestions that Chad didn't look good under Scully the first time they were together.Look at his workrate and footwork in this fight against a guy who was no slouch.

There have been times when Chad has been unrecognisable from the kid fighting here IMO.If only he fought with the same hunger every time, and if he got on his toes like this against Bernard, you wouldn't have seen Bernard coming on as strong as he did.

A strength coach who doesn't understand boxing or whatever sport he's involved in shouldn't be called a strength coach, bioenergetic specificity is the very first thing an aspiring strength coach should learn about, it's the basis for everything.

This is all for me just to say that I have absolutely NO doubts...none...that if I was to train Chad alone, with no distractions from anyone, and with no strength coach involved, he woul dhave made weight in MUCH BETTER FASHION, would have been twice as strong, and would have been able to carry out the plan...win lose or draw the fight would have been MUCH MORE competitive...
