Just when it looked like the winner Taylor/Lacy might be the only way to go, he now has two additional fights: Calzaghe or Hopkins. While tonight probably means Calzaghe will retire, maybe, just maybe, he'll want a farewell fight at home. And a rematch with Hopkins would not excite anyone, and now Pavlik has been discredited. Otherwise, Hopkins also has no opponent unless Jones beats Calzaghe. Hopkins vs. Kessler probably doesn't capture the public's imagination, nor would Hopkins/Taylor III.
I don't think no one wants to see Hopkins/Calzaghe 2. Bad matchup for Hopkins everytime. Taylor probably outpoints him again due to his hand speed. I don't think Hopkins wants anything to do with Dawson. Too young and talented. The only legit "big" fight left is Hopkins/RJJ 2. I hope RJJ pulls it off.
From your lips, man. I'd do damn near anything for Roy to beat Calzaghe, then set up the rematch everyone has wanted so much since 2001.
Me too, as you guys have said. He's too fast and, in many respects, is a bigger and better version of Taylor.
Surely there would be ALOT more money in fighting the winner of Jones and Calzaghe, Dawson isn't exactly PPV material yet despite being a quality operator.
Hopkins would be stupid to take this fight. I hope he retires or only fights RJJ assuming he beats Calzaghe.
I think Calzaghe will retire after Roy win lose or draw the only other fight he might take is a rematch with Hopkins in Wales.
I'm afraid you're right. What sucks is that if Dawson were an HBO fighter, this matchup would be a no brainer. Unfortunately, the only way to really become hyped as a Showtime/Gary Shaw fighter is to be known as a slugger. Dawson's skills would play fine on HBO, but not on Showtime.
