How can a fighter be great anyway at this stage of his career?? Do you understand "greatness"??

    Bollocks mate.

Both the Jones and Hopkins fights would have brought in a far larger live gate, had they been in the UK. Yet they were in the States, despite less money being made for the live gate there.

So why change the pattern all of a sudden? :think

Oh yea, it's because he's not fighting senile old men anymore.

No, he saves that for the greats like Adamek.

I don't think Dawsons chin would be an issue, Joe is a fairly light puncher at this point in his career, he doesn't sit down on punches because of his brittle hands.

I think Calzaghe would win at this stage, but it's a close fight.

Sure he would......the hype begins with skills, talent and ability.....once the preformances validate the hype the bandwagon begins. The same is happening for your UK fighter in David Haye....he had the HYPE surronding his heavy heads and fast punches but the Hype was only validated once he beat the Curiser champions...guys like Mormek. Dawson's hype came through when people witness his speed, skills and reflexes...once he beat guys like Adamek, tarver and johnson the Hype was validated.

Anyone can loose...that includes guys like Joe and Floyd...if Chad looses he'll loose to a legit name and top fighter but Chad like David get hype b/c of their accomplishements and how they preform...that is the bottom line. Their nationality has nothing to do with it.

Not necessarily; when you have a chin like Dawson's, you can get beaten by a journeyman too.

And no...the main reason why Dawson is hyped as much as he is has mainly to do with the fact that he is American. With Pavlik schooled by Hopkins, he is the next big thing.

Of course that could happen....but it's just highly unlikely. Tito for instance had a weak chin, but like Dawson has a quality that allows him to recoup fast and the will/determination to get up and adpat after the KD....Tito would normally end up KOing his foe.....Chad has just proven to have the heart to get up and skills and composure to "COME BACK" and win.

And NO.....there are many American fighters with skills, talent and good AM experience who have not recveied the kind of HYPE we are discussing. The perterson brothers the Dirrell brothers are all very promising and talent fighters yet their Hype is regional....Dawsons Hype reaches globally in boxing....people know his name they heard of his talent...HAYE is the same...His Hype has reached across the pond and the US fans know of him...they may not buy in to his Hype just yet....just like the UK fans are not all buying in to Dawson's Hype just yet. It has nothing to do with being American...if it does then I guess David's Hype is all b/c he's a British fighter.

Pav being schooled by Bhop has nothing to do with the Hype Chad has. Chad's Hype has been there even before Bhop and PAV signed to fight and PAV is still the MW champion who lost to a GREAT fighter in Bernard...PAV's Hype has dipped but you'll see that PAV is going to be dominant at MW.

Well clearly your hindsight is 20 20.
Chris Eubank is not a great test for a young calzaghe?
A prime kessler no great test?
A prime lacy no great test?
I will wont mention the Eurobums Calzaghe faced like Reid as obviously they carry little weight in the states.

I didnt see much adapting in the Johnson fight? He could have stayed away and gone in and out at will and beaten Johnson if he had a higher work rate and ring smarts. He got pressurised into a fight he almost lost.

If Dawson got put down against calzaghe it would be over. Calzaghe's output would see to that.

THank you!:good Eubanks was a good test for the young JOE. Without question but it was clear that Eubanks was sliding..FAST. After his loss to Joe Eubanks lost Twice and ended his career.

Kessler was Joe's 3rd best win which JUST recently happened within the last 1 and a half years. Bhop, Eubanks, Kessler then Roy Jones are the order I rank as most meaningful and important wins in Joe's career.

Prime Lacy?? Robin Ried? Now I'm not saying they aren't legit fighters who are quality...b/c they are. But we are talking about ELITE fighters who are mentioned in the same breath as guys like Hagler, Leonard, Duran, Arguello, Hearns, ALI, ect.....Joe, Bhop, Roy...even Chris Eubanks are Hall of fame fighters and future ATG's.....Lacy and rieds aren't even close....Kessler may not even be a future ATG.

Just trying to keep things in perspective.:good

Is Dawson an elite fighter who can be mentioned in the same breath as guys like Hagler, Leonard, Duran, Arguello, Hearns, ALI?

Can Dawson even be mentioned in the same breath as Bhops or Jones?

Isn't he if anything more like a Reid or a Lacy, even though not quite as good as the former?

Right...I agree! Chad didn't look good in that fight. I've said that. Experincen was lacking in that fight for Chad and I gurantee that the Johnson fight made Chad even better than he would have been had he blew Glenn out in 1 round.

But with that said! He was still able to pull out the win in a close fight. Just say that Chad didn't have a good night....lets say it was an off night. You don't have an off night with a guy like GLenn Johnson...if you do you get beat.

However....Chad didn't loose....and while a fight that Chad could have lost if judges viewed the fight differently, Chad came back to make a statment in the Tarver fight! That is what champions or TRUE champions do. And if Dawson was to be put down by JOe I'm willing to say Joe could close the show with his array of combinations...but I'll also say the same thing if the situation was reversed....if Joe got hurt by CHad...Chad has the skills, footwork and speed to close the show as well.
