Dawson is a complete dumbbass, but he's still a very talented fighter. I'll ignore what he says out of the ring, and concentrate on his performance inside it. Definitely picking him to beat Hopkins.
Hopkins landed almost nothing. Hopkins held a lot during the second round at least. A lot. Hopkins looked scared when he charged in and threw sloppy combos (what he threw does the word "combinations" horrible justice). Hopkins maneuvered like a nervous boxer and in full retreat bouncing off the corner posts in order to not get trapped.
Never seen hopkins fight? Thought Bhop did well right hand, smother, right hand, smother, right hand, sm-SPINEBUSTER!!
Imagine if Hopkins Pascal 1 had ended after 4 rounds? these guys would be saying 'Hopkins couldn't handle Pascals speed or power FFS he got dropped twice! then quit' but because Chad was following Hopkins around the ring (something Hopkins would have prefered, rather then being forced to track his opponent like in the Pascal fight) for almost a full 2 rounds it's proof Chad Dawson was going to beat him atsch
:yep Also, I remember upon reflecting that everyone thought Chad was coming out aggressive and making BHop uncomfortable, but my friend noted something I agreed with, which was that Dawson came out with a lot of nervous energy that contributed to a high rhythm that he probably couldn't maintain over 12 rounds. I could easily see Hopkins taking advantage of that tactically later in the fight, drawing him into what he thinks are safe exchanges and surprising him with rushes on the inside. It's what he does. 2 rounds aren't enough, which is why I'm so glad an immediate rematch was scheduled.
Dawson is holding on hard to that particular item -the age factor-along with what should come with young age, speed, strength. He is gonna fall into such a big trap, OMG. And just for the record, to Nonito Smoak, Hopkins is never nervous, never in front of PR crowd after 9-11 in NYC, not in front of Canadians in Montreal, not in front of Mercado well south of the border. Sloppy combos is something absolutely preposterous to label a fundamentally sound technical fighter like Hop even at this age, actually more so at this age, but I admit Hopkins used his back legs a lot in those almost 6 minutes when nobody hardly landed anything significant.
He isn't younger, he isn't stronger, and they may be right around the same speed but Dawson has the edge.
Dawson did not land anything because Hopkins was using his back legs. Hopkins starts slow. He takes the first three or four rounds to figure his opponent out. What i saw was Dawson having no idea as to what he should do. He is already full of hate and that anger will cause him to burn his youthful energy. (Same thing happened to Pascal).
